DESCRIPTION: Training Overview\n\nThis course is for investigative professionals who work with children and families of abuse.\n\n\n\nAdvanced Forensic Interview Training \nThis training is designed to provide multiple opportunities for professionals to expand the scope of expertise surrounding their forensic interviewing practice. Topics have been selected based on requests from the field and will build upon the foundational knowledge and skills that learners have developed to this point. There are a limited number of online activities that need to be completed prior to the in-person CornerHouse training. These activities are intended to establish a shared foundation and allow learners to focus on the application of research- and practice-based knowledge and information during the in-person portion of the curriculum. All learners are requested to bring a forensic interview recording for review. \nLearners who complete CornerHouse’s Advanced Forensic Interview Training will: \n\nEngage in the process of peer review and consultation\, for the purpose of increasing skills and knowledge as well as increasing familiarity with the significance of the process.\nDevelop a solid foundation to effectively speak to the basics and the complexities of forensic interviewing\, particularly in a legal setting.\nEnhance their capacity to adjust\, address or negotiate the numerous challenges presented in a wide range of forensic interviews.\nIncrease interviewing skills and abilities in regard to target populations\, including adolescents\, children with unique needs and varying abilities and witnesses to crimes.\n\nHow is the training provided? \n\nThe 6 hours of online learning is required and will be available 3 weeks before the in-person training. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nBeginning in the 1980’s\, leaders in the field of child abuse and neglect investigation identified the need for uniform and forensically sound strategies to investigate these cases. Thus\, forensic interviewing protocols began to be developed based on emerging research and practice. The first protocol to be established was done so by the National Child Advocacy Center followed by CornerHouse and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC). Today\, there are many protocols widely used throughout the world. In this training\, we will discuss differences and similarities in many commonly used protocols. Training methods include lecture and discussion\, review of CornerHouse video-recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. These courses are designed for teams of forensic interviewers\, child protection workers\, tribal social service investigators\, law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorneys. Participants are encouraged to attend as a multidisciplinary team. Courses are outcome-based and include an exam upon completion. \nThis training is taking place in-person in Roseville\, MN. Each day training will take place from 8:00am-4:30pm Central Time. Friday will be a half day from 8:00am-1:00pm. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren who experience abuse or neglect may describe what happened to them in many ways. When a child talks about abuse\, it is called disclosure. Disclosures can be purposeful or accidental. \nDisclosing abuse or neglect is a process or a journey not a destination. Part of the journey often includes recantation or taking back the disclosure. Understanding the dynamics of the process a child may go through when disclosing\, including recantation\, can help us understand how to better conduct our investigations\, forensic interviews and therefore help in the healing journey. Additionally\, we need to understand this process\, including what the research tells us is “normal” to speak effectively on the subject in the courtroom. \nThis training will help learners better understand the disclosure process\, including recantation. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nExperiences in childhood matter. Numerous research studies have shown how childhood stress and trauma can impact adult health. The Ace Study is the largest study investigating the health and social effects of negative childhood experiences. Now that we have the research\, what can we do about it? The cycle of violence\, generational poverty and abuse\, homelessness\, substance abuse\, incarceration\, perpetration and victimization of violence are all related to ACE’s. But what if this is my story? \nMany adult survivors of child abuse have not or could not receive a collaborative response to their maltreatment for many reasons. One\, statute of limitations. Two\, prior to Child Advocacy Centers being established at the time of the maltreatment. Three\, the lack of understanding and responding to potential child maltreatment at the time. Helping survivors of childhood trauma understand the impact that ACE’s may have on their health and well-being is step one. Acknowledging the barriers and times when a survivor feels stuck is step two. Creating tools and self-care strategies is the lifetime journey to hope\, health and happiness. You are NOT your ACE score. It is NOT a diagnosis. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren and youth have individual needs based on their age and development. The CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol is a person-centered\, semi-structured\, and forensically sound process to gather information from individuals who are identified as victims and/or witnesses of an alleged crime. There are times when it is necessary to adjust a traditional model of a one session forensic interview for the unique needs of the individual\, including interviewing the individual over multiple sessions. This is identified as a Planned Multiple Session Interview (or multisession). Understanding when a multisession interview is necessary and how to conduct a multisession interview may be beneficial to maximize the individual’s ability or opportunity to share their experience. \nThis training will review the literature regarding multiple-session interviews\, discuss decision-making for selecting appropriate cases for multiple sessions\, and provide guidance on conducting a single forensic interview over multiple sessions. \nObjectives\n\nLearners will understand the benefits of multiple-session forensic interviews in meeting the unique needs of individuals.\nLearners will identify when a multiple-session interview may be necessary.\nLearners will learn to adjust the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol into a Planned Multiple-session interview.\nLearners will explore considerations for the Multidisciplinary Team regarding incorporating multiple session interviews in current practice.\n\nRegister Through CornerHouse\nThis training being offered FREE to MDT members within the state of Minnesota. SUMMARY:CornerHouse Basic Forensic Interview Training
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training teaches the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol™ a credible\, reliable\, developmentally flexible and non-traumatic forensic interview protocol appropriate for children\, adolescents and vulnerable adults involved in a sexual abuse investigation. Training methods include lecture and discussion\, review of CornerHouse video-recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. These courses are designed for teams of forensic interviewers\, child protection workers\, tribal social service investigators\, law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorneys. Participants are encouraged to attend as a multidisciplinary team. Courses are outcome-based and include an exam upon completion. \nThis training is taking place in-person in Roseville\, MN. Each day training will take place from 8:00am-4:30pm Central Time. Friday will be a half day from 8:00am-1:00pm.
