SUMMARY:ZAP Munchausen by Proxy and Medical Child Abuse
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\n\nMunchausen by Proxy Abuse continues to be under-recognized by those empowered to protect children. \n\n\n\n\nMunchausen by Proxy and Medical Child Abuse: Updates for Interdisciplinary Practice \nMunchausen by Proxy Abuse\, also known as Medical Child Abuse\, continues to be under-recognized by those empowered to protect children. Recent high-profile cases have brought Munchausen by Proxy Abuse and Medical Child Abuse (MBPA/MCA) under greater public awareness and scrutiny. This training provides updates for child protection\, legal\, medical\, and mental health professionals. A pediatrician\, forensic psychologist\, and attorney will share best practices that facilitate determining whether this type of abuse is occurring in the context of custody disputes\, healthcare\, education\, or therapy. Munchausen Support is a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting survivors\, educating professionals\, and providing resources to anyone who seeks help confirming whether their concerns should be taken seriously\, and steps to confirm or dispel whether abuse should be reported. We discuss our model of providing free online support groups as a trauma-informed and evidence-based modality. The impact of recent media legal cases and media coverage regarding MBPA/MCA will be explored. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nOutline protocols for an interdisciplinary approach to investigating MCA\nIdentify barriers to protecting victims of MBPA/MCA\nDiscuss trauma-informed responses to MBPA/MCA survivors and non-offending family members\nDiscuss the implication of recent court cases and media coverage on mandated reporters of MBPA/MCA\n\nRegister through ZAP

SUMMARY:ZAP | The Sextortion Crisis: What Child Protection Professionals Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\n\nMost of us were trained to spot grooming as a slow burn. Weeks of trust-building. A predator playing a long game. Sextortion tore that timeline up. \nA teenager can go from a friendly message to a full-blown crisis before dinner. The offender doesn’t need months\, and increasingly doesn’t even need a real photo. With AI\, they can fabricate the “proof” and jump straight to the threat. The weapon was never really the image anyway. It’s the shame. And shame moves faster than any reporting system we’ve built. \nThis session closes the gap between what we learned and what’s actually happening to kids right now. We’ll break down how sextortion works\, why it lands so hard on teens (boys especially\, in the financial wave)\, and why the smartest\, most supported kid in the room still won’t tell you. Think of a child sitting on this secret like someone trying to hold a beach ball underwater. It takes everything they have\, and the second they’re exhausted\, it explodes to the surface. Our job is to be a safe place for that surface to happen. Then we get practical: what a trauma-informed response looks like in the first ten minutes after a disclosure\, the warning signs worth watching\, and prevention messages that survive in a world where “just don’t send anything” is no longer enough. \n\n\n\nRegister through ZAP

SUMMARY:ZAP | Advanced Forensic Interviewing Training: Dolls & Diagrams for Practice\, Investigation\, and Prosecution
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis virtual training provides multidisciplinary team members an understanding of the research and proper use to assist with investigation and prosecution when forensic interviews include the use of interviewing aids of anatomical dolls and diagrams. \nWhile the practice of using anatomical dolls and diagrams is sometimes seen as contentious in the field of forensic interviewing\, research shows the appropriate use of dolls and diagrams within the guidance of a nationally recognized protocol can increase forensically relevant information and accuracy within the forensic interview. \nThis training will summarize relevant research on dolls and diagrams\, provide an overview of their purposeful and appropriate use in the forensic interview\, and address common defense challenges to the use of dolls and diagrams. This one-day advanced training includes practicum and scenario work for participants. \nLearning Objectives\n\nReview appropriate and purposeful practice regarding the use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview.\nIncrease knowledge of the relevant and reflective research regarding the use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview. Students will gain a better understanding of the proper use through scenario practicum with dolls and diagrams.\nAddress misconceptions and defense challenges to the appropriate use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview.\n\nRegister through ZAP

SUMMARY:ZAP Keeping Faith 2-Day Basic Course
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis course empowers faith communities to recognize and respond to cases of sexual abuse\, physical abuse\, emotional abuse\, and neglect. Included are discussions detailing the impact of child abuse on a victim’s sense of spirituality and offering concrete suggestions for working with medical and mental health professionals to assist a child in coping with maltreatment. The course also discusses ideal child protection policies for a faith-based institution\, including handling a situation in which a convicted sex offender seeks to join a congregation. A review of various child abuse case scenarios and a discussion on appropriate and inappropriate responses allows for real-life problem-solving and feedback. \nWhy is this training important for every faith community? \n\n93% of sex offenders describe themselves as being ‘religious’\n20% of 2864 church leaders knew of at least one convicted sex offender who was attending or was a member of their church (Christianity Today 2010)\nChild abuse Survivor Quote: “I went online to every faith community in my area trying to find a place in which I felt safe to worship. None of them gave me any information about safety policies in their community so I just gave up trying.”\n\nIntended Audience \nClergy\, chaplains\, youth ministers\, faith leaders\, counselors and other members of a faith community who may work with children or families impacted by child abuse. \nRegister through ZAP

SUMMARY:ZAP Follow-up Forensic Interviews
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\nAdvanced training on conducting legally sound\, child-centered follow-up interviews—structured strategies that avoid duplicative questioning. \n\n\n\n\nThis one-day advanced training prepares forensic interviewers to conduct developmentally sensitive\, legally sound follow-up interviews with children in abuse investigations. Participants begin with a historical overview of how concerns about “multiple interviews” shaped past practice\, followed by a review of current research and professional guidance supporting individualized\, case-informed decisions about when additional interviews are appropriate. \nDrawing on contemporary literature and field standards\, the training clarifies the purpose of follow-up interviews\, how they differ from duplicative questioning\, and how they can enhance accuracy and completeness when conducted properly. Attendees will learn structured strategies for planning\, documenting\, and conducting follow-up sessions using non-leading\, child-centered methods that build on prior information without increasing suggestibility risk. \n\n\nRegister through ZAP
