A Wound Without a Cure: Finding Justice for Child Victims

A Wound Without a Cure: Finding Justice for Child Victims

Training Details

Minnesota Children’s Alliance (Alliance) is excited to host A Wound Without a Cure: Finding Justice for Child Victims, with Amy Russell, M.S.Ed., J.D., NCC, 1 p.m. – 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, via Zoom HealthCare.

William Scott Downey once stated, “Law without justice is a wound without a cure.” Studies suggest that less than 20 percent of investigated cases of child sexual abuse move forward to prosecution, and approximately half of those cases result in a dismissal or acquittal. With so few cases resulting in criminal convictions, how is justice achieved for child victims of sexual abuse and exploitation?

This session addresses methods that have been shown to increase criminal convictions, to address the concept of justice, and to discuss various approaches through which justice for children may be realized outside of the criminal arena.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will understand the characteristics of cases that proceed through the criminal justice system.
  2. Participants will discuss the concept of justice in child abuse cases.
  3. Participants will identify various methods to achieve successful outcomes for justice for victims of CSA.
