Dana holds a master’s degree in criminal justice\, and she has worked extensively in education and harm prevention surrounding technology in the state of Wisconsin. Dana is a former Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Commander; in her tenure with the Wisconsin Department of Justice\, Dana managed the program operations for the ICAC Task Force\, including managing Wisconsin CyberTips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and collaborating with Wisconsin law enforcement regarding investigations\, outreach\, and training events. Throughout her career\, Dana has provided online safety outreach to over 30\,000 people. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nCulture is culture\, and if you aren’t part of it\, you can’t always make sense of it right away. Queer and trans survivors of IPV often face additional barriers to safety\, above and beyond the difficulties all survivors face\, whether it’s from the specific\, identity-based tactics their abuser uses\, from an unsupportive or estranged family\, or a history of cold\, even contemptuous\, responses from those who represent the system. This situation not only exacerbates caseloads for remaining staff but also negatively impacts morale\, inflates recruitment and training costs\, and threatens organizational reputation. Contributing factors include low salaries\, overwhelming workloads\, repeated exposure to trauma\, and extensive documentation requirements\, creating a cycle of attrition that burdens supervisors and managers alike. \nThis 2-hour intermediate training session for supervisors\, managers\, and administrators will offer actionable strategies to address the root causes of burnout and turnover. SUMMARY:IHS | Supporting Neurodivergent Parents: Strategies for Strength-Based Engagement
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nParenting can be especially complex for neurodivergent individuals\, including those with ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Challenges such as executive functioning difficulties\, heightened stress\, and communication barriers often intersect with parenting responsibilities. However\, these same parents frequently demonstrate remarkable resilience\, dedication\, and creativity in raising their children. \nThis training equips professionals with the tools and insights needed to support neurodivergent parents more effectively. Participants will learn how to recognize both the challenges and the unique strengths of “neuro-spicy” parents\, building a foundation of trust\, respectful communication\, and individualized support. The goal is to foster stronger partnerships that empower parents and promote healthier family outcomes. \nThis intermediate-level virtual course is for an array of human services professionals including social workers\, psychologists\, counsellors\, and other professionals supporting neurodivergent parents. \nLearning Objectives\n\nIdentify key parenting challenges faced by autistic and ADHD parents\, including executive function issues\, stress vulnerability\, and communication barriers.\nDescribe the core strengths of neurodivergent parents\, such as resilience\, commitment\, and positive parenting skills.\nApply neuro-inclusive strategies that fister trust\, improve communication\, and promote skill-building in parents.\n\nAbout the Trainer\nLaura Gaines\, MSW\, LISW-S.\, is a trainer and researcher with a current focus on resilience as an individual and community skill. She has been an Ohio Child Welfare Training Program trainer and curriculum developer for over 20 years. Laura has served as a volunteer on the Crisis Text Line since April 2020. \n​Her career experiences include being a child and adolescent therapist for over 20 years\, and 15 years working with children and adults who have developmental disabilities\, thus providing thousands of opportunities to work with clients and their families in moments of crisis. Laura has specialized training in Trauma Informed Care and presented at the 2021 Ohio Children’s Alliance conference: Eighth Annual Trauma Informed Care Summit. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nMN Childwelfare is excited to announce Aligned for Impact: Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration in Child Protection\, an in-person\, free training with multiple offerings across the state of Minnesota in the Fall of 2025. This project is organized by the Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy\, the Tribal Training and Certification Partnership (TTCP) Opens in new window and the Minnesota Department of Children\, Youth\, and Families (DCYF) with funding from the Children’s Justice Act (CJA) Task Force. \nUpcoming training sessions will utilize case studies\, panels\, and facilitated exercises led by Minnesota-based child protection MDT professionals to highlight practical suggestions for building effective MDTs and child protection collaborations. Panels will include professionals working in child protection\, prosecution\, law enforcement\, tribal partners\, mental health\, medical\, advocacy\, and more. These professionals will share their own experiences and learnings related to working with and building multidisciplinary teams. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nHuman trafficking affects an estimated 50 million victims globally\, with approximately 400\,000 individuals exploited in the United States through sex trafficking\, labor trafficking\, or domestic servitude. This illicit trade generates staggering profits—approximately $240 billion annually—surpassing the earnings of major Fortune 500 companies such as Apple\, Amazon\, and Disney. \nTraditionally\, law enforcement has relied heavily on victim testimony to secure convictions against traffickers. However\, this approach presents significant challenges\, as proving a human trafficking case often depends on victims who may be unable or unwilling to testify due to fear\, trauma\, or other barriers. \nFortunately\, alternative strategies exist to target traffickers effectively. Like narcotics trafficking\, human trafficking generates enormous profits that are difficult to hide. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nShaken Baby Syndrome (SBS)\, also known as Abusive Head Trauma (AHT)\, is one of the most devastating forms of child abuse\, often resulting in lifelong disability or death. This training will provide a comprehensive overview of SBS/AHT\, including the underlying biomechanical forces\, sentinel injuries\, signs and symptoms\, and long-term consequences for infants and families. Participants will explore current research and data trends\, identify high-risk situations and caregiver triggers\, and examine the role of stress and unrealistic expectations in infant crying episodes. \nThrough case examples and discussion\, attendees will also learn about evidence-based prevention efforts\, effective caregiver education strategies\, and relevant public policies. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe October 2025 Fundamentals in Victim Services 201 Training is a virtual training for experienced victim advocates to expand and deepen their core knowledge and skills in providing victim-centered services. This training is designed for victim advocates who have been in the field for 5+ years. Topics covered in this training include: \n\nThe science behind intergenerational trauma\, and how to break the cycle\nWorking with families that minimize\, dismiss\, or condone abuse\nOccupational Identity (OI) and how to sustain your work for an entire career\nChildren with problematic sexual behaviors\nRecognizing and interrogating the roles of bias\, privilege\, and oppression in your daily work\n\nFurthermore\, training participants will have opportunities to connect with one another and with experienced professionals with a range of knowledge and skills. \nRegister through the Minnesota Alliance on Crime\n

SUMMARY:Zero Abuse Project Keeping Faith 2-Day Basic Course
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis course empowers faith communities to recognize and respond to cases of sexual abuse\, physical abuse\, emotional abuse\, and neglect. Included are discussions detailing the impact of child abuse on a victim’s sense of spirituality and offering concrete suggestions for working with medical and mental health professionals to assist a child in coping with maltreatment. The course also discusses ideal child protection policies for a faith-based institution\, including handling a situation in which a convicted sex offender seeks to join a congregation. A review of various child abuse case scenarios and a discussion on appropriate and inappropriate responses allows for real-life problem-solving and feedback. \nWhy is this training important for every faith community? \n\n93% of sex offenders describe themselves as being ‘religious’\n20% of 2864 church leaders knew of at least one convicted sex offender who was attending or was a member of their church (Christianity Today 2010)\nChild abuse Survivor Quote: “I went online to every faith community in my area trying to find a place in which I felt safe to worship.
