SUMMARY:Clinical Considerations for Transgender & Non-Binary (TGNB) Youth
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\nThis is a deeper look into advocacy for Transgender & Non-Binary (TGNB)youth. This training covers the various ways TGNB youth transition – socially\, and/or physically\, how structural cisheterosexism impacts minority stress\, national and state trends in legislation surrounding TGNB healthcare access\, gender dysphoria\, WPATH standards of care\, and more. This training is intended for youth-serving social workers with an emphasis on clinical providers. \nAbout the Presenters\n \n\n\nEthan Hibbard is a Senior Family Advocate\, Forensic Interviewer\, and Marketing Coordinator from Voices for Children Advocacy Center in Flint\, MI. Ethan started as a volunteer and\, as a result of his service\, was hired to build the Victim Advocacy program for the center serving Genesee and Shiawassee Counties in Michigan. Alongside Sarah\, Ethan provides community training on Queer Youth Advocacy and Clinical Considerations for Transgender and Non-binary Youth. \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \n Sarah Zyburtis the VP of Advocacy and Advancement at Voices for Children Advocacy Center. She is honored to support Ethan in providing community training on Queer Youth Advocacy\, and Clinical Considerations for Transgender and Non-binary Youth. When not having honest and open conversations about supporting Queeryouth\, Sarah also oversees prevention education\, advocacy\, the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)Program\, the Family Resource Center\, and events at Voices for Children. Sarah wants those receiving the training to understand the critical role they can play in saving the lives of the queer youth and teens they serve. \n\n\n\n\nAbout Voices for Children Advocacy Center\nVoices for Children Advocacy Center works to intervene in the alarming number of children who are survivors of abuse by educating\, empowering\, and enlightening the community\, school-aged children\, and parents about prevention factors. Voices for Children leads the community in responding to victims of child abuse violence and works to break the cycle of abuse via the prevention\, and intervention programming\, as well as community education. Voices for Children is dedicated to building healthy relationships and provides a continuum of services for persons of all ages who have been or are at risk of being\, victims of child abuse or neglect. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nZero Abuse Project is hosting this training event where participants will learn tools and practical skills to better communicate with a child during the initial outcry of maltreatment. \nProtecting children from child abuse and maltreatment requires that everyone understand how to recognize\, respond and report any form of maltreatment a child may experience. FIRST response is often the single most important step in effectively responding and reporting maltreatment. \nFIRST will give you and your community the tools necessary to better protect kids. This half-day training goes beyond recognizing types of maltreatment. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH) will present a live webinar with Connie Persike\, MS\, CCC/SLP\, Speech Pathologist and Educational Consultant at Supportable Solutions. Many professionals are working tirelessly to shift the behavioral paradigm away from the traditional behavioral approach and toward what current relational and neuroscience research has taught us. When we know better\, we do better! Let’s use that information to redesign tools we frequently use in schools and community settings today – functional behavioral assessments and positive behavioral intervention plans. If you are struggling with these processes and if they do not align with your current philosophy and belief system\, then this workshop is for you! Participants will get a deep dive into how to make these common processes more trauma-sensitive\, neurodiversity-affirming\, and aligned with current research. SUMMARY:First Witness Safe and Strong Child Train the Presenter
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nFirst Witness is pleased to offer Safe and Strong Child© Train the Presenter to CACs and other organizations interested in implementing a child abuse prevention education program in their communities. \nThis training will prepare presenters to share Safe and Strong Child© sessions with students\, caregivers\, and teachers and bring the curriculum to their local community; each person planning on presenting the information needs to take this Train the Presenter course. This course is not a train-the-trainer course\, and does not prepare you to train other presenters at your organization. \nSafe and Strong Child© (SSC©) body safety curriculum is aligned with evidence-informed best practices for child sexual abuse prevention. SSC© consists of developmentally appropriate classroom lessons that are taught interactively through stories\, role play\, and song in a non-threatening environment. Portions of the curriculum also provide support and education to teachers and caregivers who can help to keep kids safe. \nAll participants will receive electronic copies of SSC© curriculum materials\, classroom presentation aids\, and coordination paperwork. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis course empowers faith communities to recognize and respond to cases of sexual abuse\, physical abuse\, emotional abuse\, and neglect. Included are discussions detailing the impact of child abuse on a victim’s sense of spirituality and offering concrete suggestions for working with medical and mental health professionals to assist a child in coping with maltreatment. The course also discusses ideal child protection policies for a faith-based institution\, including handling a situation in which a convicted sex offender seeks to join a congregation. A review of various child abuse case scenarios and a discussion on appropriate and inappropriate responses allows for real-life problem-solving and feedback. SUMMARY:Zero Abuse Project Serving LGBTQIA+ Children and Families in the Child Abuse MDT Process
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis course will provide an overview of affirmative practices for all multidisciplinary team (MDT) professionals supporting and serving LGBTQIA+ children\, youth and families when responding to child abuse and maltreatment. In addition to providing an overview of gender and sexuality terminology\, some of the topics covered will include cultural considerations when working with LGBQTIA+ children\, youth and families\, working with caregivers that are not supportive of LGBTQIA+ youth\, preparing the team\, family and child for the process\, allyship\, pronouns\, engaging community partners\, vetting resources for LGBQTIA+ families\, considerations for the forensic protocol and the use of interview aids. While considerations for the forensic interview will be discussed in this course\, the primary focus of this training is on the MDT\, as a whole. \nThis training is appropriate for law enforcement\, prosecuting attorneys\, child protection workers\, forensic interviewers\, mental health professionals\, medical providers\, advocates\, community liaisons\, and youth serving professionals that may interact with LGBTQIA+ children and youth. \nThis event will be held virtually via Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent out to registrants prior to the training. \nLearning Objectives\n\nDiscuss considerations for engaging meaningfully with LGBQTIA+ victim/survivors and their families in the MDT process\, including work with non-supportive parents and caregivers.\nIncrease understanding of LGBTQIA+ culture\, including the issues that affect the LGBTQIA+ community.\nRecognize how LGBTQIA+ victim/survivor’s experiences with systems providers and polyvictimzations can affect interactions child abuse professionals may have with LGBTQIA+ victims and their families.\nOffer tools for professionals to examine current practices and suggestions for practice to create more affirmative interactions and environments for LGBTQIA+ children and families.\n\nTrainers\nRachel Johnson is the Lead Forensic Interview Specialist with Zero Abuse Project. Rachel most recently served as the Program Director for the Minnesota Children’s Alliance and has fourteen years of experience in work related to forensic interviewing\, multidisciplinary teams\, advocacy\, child abuse\, prevention education\, sexual assault and family violence\, both domestically and abroad. Bettering the systemic response to LGBTQIA+ victim/survivors of sexual abuse and abuse has been an on-going focus of their academic\, professional\, and community-based work. \nCaitie Dahl is a Forensic Interview Specialist and Trainer with Zero Abuse Project. Prior to joining Zero Abuse\, Caitie served as a Forensic Interviewer\, Forensic Program Coordinator\, Trainer\, and Multidisciplinary Team Facilitator with First Witness Child Advocacy Center in Duluth\, Minnesota. SUMMARY:Understanding Social Emotional Developmental and a Way to Healing
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nMinnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH) will present a live webinar with Tiffany Grant\, Business Development Manager\, Trainer\, and Coach at First Children’s Finance. During this presentation\, participants will learn to define stages of social-emotional development and how to support children through each stage. The presenter will explore ways to foster healing by focusing on each child’s needs and examining how to support families by exploring resources that help families support children at home. This training is intended for early childhood professionals\, family members\, and social services professionals. \nThree Learning Objectives\n\nParticipants will be able to recognize and identify Social Emotional Development and how to foster healing.\nParticipants will learn Social Emotional Strategies that help children with self-regulation.\nParticipants will gain access to a field of resources on fostering healing with children and families.\n\nAbout the Presenter\nTiffany Grant is currently working to fortify the ECE business model as a Business Development Manager at First Children’s Finance. As a continuing advocate for equity and inclusion\, she helped establish a peer networking resource group for entrepreneurs of color called Community Conversations for Early Childhood Entrepreneurs. Tiffany’s expertise lies in bridging the gaps between childcare business\, advocacy\, and equity where she has sought to help BOPIC business owners navigate the structural and systemic barriers they encounter every day. Tiffany has a talent for identifying areas of the Early Childhood Field where discrepancies exist and has worked to specifically target those areas of need. Her work in coaching and training\, as well as in compliance and curriculum development has helped to highlight these needs. Knowing the importance of continuing education\, Tiffany also works as a trainer in the subjects of early childhood trauma\, African American Language. Additional examples of meaningful contributions to the field include co-founding an ECE branch within the Excell Academy for Higher Learning charter school. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe March 2023 Fundamentals in Victim Services 201 Training is a virtual training for experienced victim advocates to expand and deepen their core knowledge and skills in providing victim-centered services. This training is designed for victim advocates who have been in the field for 5+ years. By the end of this training\, advocates will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the neurobiology of trauma in victimization and develop skills for providing trauma-responsive advocacy to all victims of crime.\nExpand their understanding of vicarious trauma and strategies to build resilience to sustain their career in victim services.\nUnderstand and examine their own Occupational Identity (OI) and identify strategies for cultivating healthy boundaries; and\nDescribe the reparations process and have a detailed understanding of the current statutes regarding reparations\nRecognize and interrogate the roles of bias\, privilege\, and oppression in their daily work\nUnderstand the ways in which evaluation and grant reporting can be effective and culturally responsive\nFurthermore\, training participants will have opportunities to connect with one another and with experienced professionals with a range of knowledge and skills.\n\nExpectations for the Virtual Format\nFundamentals in Victim Services 201 will feature interactive modules to appeal to different styles of learning\, with a combination of lecture\, small group work in breakout sessions\, and opportunities for individual reflection. The number of attendees will be limited to 30 to maximize the quality of interaction. \nModules will take place live via Zoom. Attendees will be expected to actively participate\, using the chat to engage with presenters and other participants\, and turning on cameras and unmuting during large group discussions and breakout sessions. \nMAC will award a certificate of completion to attendees who complete all the modules. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nMinnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH) is presenting a live webinar with Alyssa Madon\, Occupational Therapist at the M Health Fairview. This presentation is an introduction to sensory processing and its relationship with children that have experienced trauma. It will cover pertinent definitions and evidence-based connections to the outward responses (i.e. behaviors\, emotional difficulties\, etc) that are often seen in children that are having difficulty with sensory processing. The training will provide examples to increase comprehension and demonstrate appropriate strategies for immediate use in working with children. \nFour Learning Objectives:\n\nAttendees will be able to define basic sensory processing-related terminology\nAttendees will be able to identify the relationship between sensory processing and children who have experienced trauma.\nAttendees will be able to recognize the signs of sensory dysregulation in children who have experienced trauma.\nAttendees will be able to implement at least 5 sensory-based strategies to increase sensory regulation.\n\nAbout the Presenter\nAlyssa Mason is a pediatric occupational therapist. She received her undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a focus on child development and a master’s degree in occupational therapy with certificates in equity and diversity\, and disability and policy. Alyssa has experience working as an early childhood educator\, and a Children’s Mental Health Targeted Case Manager before starting work as a pediatric occupational therapist across multiple settings including schools\, inpatient hospitals and outpatient clinics. Siegel\, PhD\, LP\, clinical psychologist and instructor at the University of Minnesota. Reflective consultation is an enormous responsibility. In order to serve our consultees well\, it requires awareness on multiple levels\, including content\, meaning\, cultural factors and ethics.  This presentation will focus on ethics and ethical awareness issues in reflective consultation. It will include an opportunity to use a format by which to process ethical issues. The intended audience is for anyone doing reflective consultation. \nLearning Objectives\n\nParticipants will understand the significance of the role of ethics in culturally-informed reflective consultation.\nParticipants will identify three areas of concern regarding ethics in reflective consultation.\nParticipants will become familiar with a process to address ethical concerns.\n\nAbout the Presenter\n \nCarol F. Siegel\, PhD\, LP is a licensed clinical psychologist in Minneapolis who sees parents and children in her private practice. Her primary clinical focus is parenting and issues encountered by parents with complex histories. This may include depression\, stress\, adoption\, foster care\, trauma\, abuse or neglect. Dr. Siegel is a consultant to clinical and home-visiting programs around Minnesota and has been teaching in the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Master’s and Certificate Program at the University of Minnesota since 2007. SUMMARY:Growing Beyond ACEs - A Framework for all to Reach Optimum Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Training Summary\n\n\nThis training will explore the link between historical\, intergenerational\, and current trauma-related issues in our communities. Participants will understand the connection between trauma\, Mental Health\, and contemporary challenges in social justice. We will explore NEAR science (Neurobiology\, Epigenetics\, ACEs\, & Resilience) and cultural intelligence as essential growth factors. We will explore our experiences\, perceptions\, beliefs\, and behaviors that may challenge constructive relationship development. We will discuss practical\, culturally Intelligent\, trauma-responsive strategies to keep our work moving forward within our society. \nLearning Objectives\n\nThe participants will learn how to modify their position to understand individuals and their adaptive response(s) to environmental circumstances and toxic stress.\nThe participants will recognize the potential risk factors and warning signs of various mental health challenges common among individuals\, including depression\, anxiety\, disruptive behavioral disorders\, and substance use disorders.\nThe participants will interpret the prevalence of various mental health disorders in the U.S. and the need to reduce negative attitudes in their communities.\nThe participants will identify methods practitioners\, providers\, mediators\, parents\, and caregivers can use to build meaningful connections with community members.\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n \nBrandon is the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health Executive Director & consultant. He specializes in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)\, Historical and Intergenerational trauma\, Social/Emotional Intelligence (EQ)\, Leadership\, and Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). Brandon holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota\, a Masters in Community Psychology from Metropolitan State University\, and a Masters in Psychotherapy (MFT) from Adler Graduate School. Brandon is also a 2013 Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow. He lives by the motto of “Live life with Purpose on Purpose.” \n\n\nAbout the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health\nThe Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH)\, provides education and resources to professionals\, families and youth throughout Minnesota and beyond. SUMMARY:Zero Abuse Project: Considering Grooming and Manipulation in the Forensic Interview
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nGrooming behaviors are estimated to be present in nearly half of all child sexual abuse cases. It is important for child abuse professionals to recognize manipulative patterns and behaviors that offenders employ to groom their victims for compliance with abuse and non-disclosure\, so interventions can be made as early as possible. This training will provide professionals with information on what grooming is\, how to recognize grooming behaviors\, stages of grooming\, a look at legislation regarding grooming across the US\, and considerations and techniques for exploring dynamics of grooming and manipulation in the forensic interview. \nLearning Objectives\n\nIncrease child abuse professionals’ understanding of stages of sexual grooming\, and common manipulative behaviors in each stage.\nDebunk common misconceptions about grooming.\nImprove participants’ ability to communicate about nuanced dynamics in cases of sexual abuse involving grooming.\nProvide techniques and sample language for exploring grooming behaviors in the forensic interview.\n\nRegister via Zero Abuse Project\nTo Pay By Credit/Debit Card\nTo pay for your registration by credit card\, please select the first ticket option (“Pay via Credit Card”)\, and then use the pay option “PayPal” – you DO NOT NEED a PayPal account to pay with a Credit Card.
