SUMMARY:Justice Clearinghouse | When Trauma Meets the Courtroom: A Call for Compassionate Justice for Children and Families
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nIn this webinar\, national consultants and trauma expert Becky Haas will explore what trauma is\, how to identify it\, and why the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study remains so significant today. \nShe’ll discuss the widespread impact of trauma on justice-involved individuals and their families—and how creating safe\, compassionate environments can help prevent re-traumatization\, which is essential for healing and recovery. \nJustice and child-welfare professionals who understand the connection between trauma and substance use disorders are better equipped to provide interventions that support long-term stability—not just for adults\, but also for the children whose lives are shaped by their caregivers’ justice involvement. \nBecause justice shouldn’t compound harm—it should work toward true rehabilitation and healing. \nRegister Through Justice Clearinghouse\n

SUMMARY:Justice Clearinghouse | Not All Therapies Are Created Equal: What Courts Need to Know When Ordering "Therapy" for Families
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nCourts regularly order therapy for multiple reasons.  The courts are\, unfortunately\, at the mercy of what is available in their area.  This webinar is designed to go “behind the curtain” to show court officials what really happens in therapy. \nDid you know that up to 80% of what happens in therapy is not based on science\, despite the science has existed for decades?  Did you also know that a therapist whose sole training in graduate school was with adults with drug problems can (and in many sites does) work with a 5-year-old with Autism despite having no training in that area (and still gets paid for that therapy)?  Do you want to know the one question to ask a child therapist to make sure they are using evidence-based\, effective therapy for that child? \nThese “in the pocket” tips will be the focus of this webinar. \nRegister Through Justice Clearinghouse\n

SUMMARY:Justice Clearinghouse | Witness Preparation: It's Not Just About the Facts
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nMany people are not happy about being called as a witness\, for a variety of reasons. For some people\, it is an inconvenience\, or they’re weary of constantly changing court dates. For others\, testifying will require them to relive something that was upsetting or traumatic. Witness preparation is the attorney’s opportunity to identify the source of apprehension or reluctance about testifying and address it so that both the witness and the attorney are prepared to present the strongest case possible. \nIn this webinar\, we will talk about preparing witnesses to testify in a hearing or trial\, both generally and in cases that involve difficult or emotional topics\, like domestic violence or animal cruelty\, and that require additional sensitivity to the witness’ experience. We will also discuss how to identify potential challenges with a witness and what steps you may need to take to ensure a clear record. \nRegister Through Justice Clearinghouse\n

SUMMARY:CornerHouse | Multi-Session Forensic Interviews: When and Why They Should Be Considered
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren and youth have individual needs based on their age and development. The CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol is a person-centered\, semi-structured\, and forensically sound process to gather information from individuals who are identified as victims and/or witnesses of an alleged crime. There are times when it is necessary to adjust a traditional model of a one session forensic interview for the unique needs of the individual\, including interviewing the individual over multiple sessions. This is identified as a Planned Multiple Session Interview (or multisession). Understanding when a multisession interview is necessary and how to conduct a multisession interview may be beneficial to maximize the individual’s ability or opportunity to share their experience. \nThis training will review the literature regarding multiple-session interviews\, discuss decision-making for selecting appropriate cases for multiple sessions\, and provide guidance on conducting a single forensic interview over multiple sessions. \nObjectives\n\nLearners will understand the benefits of multiple-session forensic interviews in meeting the unique needs of individuals.\nLearners will identify when a multiple-session interview may be necessary.\nLearners will learn to adjust the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol into a Planned Multiple-session interview.\nLearners will explore considerations for the Multidisciplinary Team regarding incorporating multiple session interviews in current practice.\n\nRegister Through CornerHouse\nThis training being offered FREE to MDT members within the state of Minnesota. MDT members include any Child Advocacy Center (CAC) staff\, law enforcement/peace officers\, Department of Children and Families\, attorneys and advocates within a county attorney’ office\, medical providers and educators who serve/work with their local Child Advocacy Center.
