SUMMARY:CornerHouse | Multi-Session Forensic Interviews: When and Why They Should Be Considered
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren and youth have individual needs based on their age and development. The CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol is a person-centered\, semi-structured\, and forensically sound process to gather information from individuals who are identified as victims and/or witnesses of an alleged crime. There are times when it is necessary to adjust a traditional model of a one session forensic interview for the unique needs of the individual\, including interviewing the individual over multiple sessions. This is identified as a Planned Multiple Session Interview (or multisession). Understanding when a multisession interview is necessary and how to conduct a multisession interview may be beneficial to maximize the individual’s ability or opportunity to share their experience. \nThis training will review the literature regarding multiple-session interviews\, discuss decision-making for selecting appropriate cases for multiple sessions\, and provide guidance on conducting a single forensic interview over multiple sessions. \nObjectives\n\nLearners will understand the benefits of multiple-session forensic interviews in meeting the unique needs of individuals.\nLearners will identify when a multiple-session interview may be necessary.\nLearners will learn to adjust the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol into a Planned Multiple-session interview.\nLearners will explore considerations for the Multidisciplinary Team regarding incorporating multiple session interviews in current practice.\n\nRegister Through CornerHouse\nThis training being offered FREE to MDT members within the state of Minnesota. DESCRIPTION:Symposium Overview\nAs prosecutors grapple with the repercussions of an increase in physical abuse and abusive head trauma\, it is critical to provide training to improve the overall quality of the criminal investigation and prosecution of these complicated cases. \nIn response to these trends\, Zero Abuse Project and the New York Prosecutors Training Institute will jointly host an in-person training for prosecutors dedicated solely to the topics of abusive head trauma and child death. SUMMARY:Extreme Rosk Protection Orders
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe Minnesota Alliance on Crime is presenting a training with Rana Alexander\, Esq. of Standpoint where participants will learn about a new option for Minnesota victims in 2024 that allows for the court to prohibit an individual’s possession or purchase of firearms. \nEffective January 1\, 2024\, Minnesota law allows certain people to request an order from the court to prohibit someone from purchasing or possessing a firearm. This type of order is called an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO). Although the term is not used in the Minnesota law\, laws that authorize these types of orders are often called “red flag” laws. An ERPO may be issued if a person poses a significant danger of bodily harm to others and/or is at significant risk of suicide if they possess a firearm. Presenter Rana Alexander\, Esq. of Standpoint will explain the new law as well as how it will be handled by the courts and law enforcement.
