SUMMARY:Justice Clearinghouse Combating Human Trafficking
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis webinar series will provide an in-depth overview of human trafficking. Webinar attendees will gain an understanding of how human trafficking occurs and how victims are recruited/conscripted. The roots of human trafficking will be examined along with the current situation. An analysis of laws governing human trafficking will be explored. A comprehensive study of the scope of human trafficking in the United States will be provided along with an examination of indicators of human trafficking.  Attendees will gain an understanding of the role law enforcement plays along with other first responders and members of the community at large in preventing\, mitigating\, responding to\, and investigating human trafficking. \nIn part four of Human Trafficking\, we will examine societal solutions to human trafficking at the macro and micro levels. We will illustrate awareness and preventative strategies for human trafficking.  Recovery and coping for the victim from trauma will be analyzed. This topic will be presented from a multidisciplinary approach. SUMMARY:MACMH Changing the Narrative on Mental Health and Suicide
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nTalking about mental health and suicide can be an uncomfortable and uncertain topic that brings up different feelings\, beliefs\, and attitudes. This session empowers individuals to begin conversations and change perceptions toward hope\, resilience\, and a more supportive narrative around mental health. \nThroughout the session\, participants will engage in dialog about being intentional in the words we are using. Certain ways of talking about mental health and suicide can alienate members of any community\, sensationalize the issue\, contribute to a decrease in help-seeking behavior\, or even present suicide as a glamorous\, preferred way of dealing with problems. \nHaving healthy conversations about mental health and suicide avoids harmful messages that might increase suicide risk in individuals or undermine suicide prevention goals. By doing this safely\, it reduces stigma\, mitigates risks\, promotes help-seeking\, and respects all individuals. \nObjectives\n\nPromote language that respects the dignity of individuals and emphasizes compassion\, including using terms that reduce stigma and foster open\, supportive conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.\nRecognize the signs for people at risk and how to respond when you identify someone who is in distress or suicidal.\nEmpower individuals to begin conversations and change perceptions toward hope\, resilience\, and a more supportive narrative around mental health.\n\nAbout the Presenter\nDeborah Cavitt\, MS\, CFPS\, is the Manager of Education and Advocacy in MACMH’s Youth and Family team. Her passion is to educate\, coach\, and empower youth and families to give them hope\, knowledge\, and resources to promote resilience\, recovery\, and mental wellness. \nAs a parent with lived experience navigating the systems of mental health care for her children\, Deb understands the importance of family peer support during tough times. At MACMH\, she has trained many parents and caregivers to be Certified Family Peer Specialists to support families of children with diagnosed mental health disorders. Before coming to MACMH\, Deb was a classroom teacher for twenty years and a prevention specialist for a substance abuse agency. Her bachelor’s degree is in education and psychology and my master’s degree is in human service with specializations in mental health and substance abuse counseling. At MACMH Deb presents to educators\, mental health professionals\, community groups\, and parents on Early Warning Signs of Children’s Mental Health Disorders\, Suicide Prevention\, Youth Mental Health First Aid\, Bullying Prevention and many other topics related to child and adolescent mental health. SUMMARY:CornerHouse Basic Forensic Interview Training
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training teaches the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol™ a credible\, reliable\, developmentally flexible and non-traumatic forensic interview protocol appropriate for children\, adolescents and vulnerable adults involved in a sexual abuse investigation. Training methods include lecture and discussion\, review of CornerHouse video-recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. These courses are designed for teams of forensic interviewers\, child protection workers\, tribal social service investigators\, law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorneys. Participants are encouraged to attend as a multidisciplinary team. Courses are outcome-based and include an exam upon completion. This course is restricted to members who are actively a part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team. \nThis training is taking place in-person in Roseville\, MN. Each day training will take place from 8:00am-4:30pm Central Time. Friday will be a half day from 8:00am-12:30pm. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC) Forensic Interviewing of Children training is an internationally recognized\, research-informed and practice-informed intensive training. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nParenting can be especially complex for neurodivergent individuals\, including those with ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Challenges such as executive functioning difficulties\, heightened stress\, and communication barriers often intersect with parenting responsibilities. However\, these same parents frequently demonstrate remarkable resilience\, dedication\, and creativity in raising their children. \nThis training equips professionals with the tools and insights needed to support neurodivergent parents more effectively. Participants will learn how to recognize both the challenges and the unique strengths of “neuro-spicy” parents\, building a foundation of trust\, respectful communication\, and individualized support. SUMMARY:IHS | Intrafamilial Child Torture: An Emerging Category of Child Maltreatment
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training will introduce Intrafamilial Child Torture (ICT)\, a severe form of child abuse where parents or caregivers torture their own children\, including physical\, sexual\, and psychological torture and malicious neglect- to meet the psychopathological needs of the perpetrator. ICT presents with unique family dynamics and perpetrator psychopathology that is different from typical physical and psychological maltreatment. It is often missed or misbelieved due to the extreme nature of the harm\, sophistication of the perpetrator\, and presence among all socio-economic classes\, according to clinical data. \nThis training is designed for the intermediate to advanced level professionals\, but beginners and students are encouraged to attend to listen and observe. This training will combine lecture\, Q&A\, group discussion\, and real-life case examples. \nLearning Objectives\n\nDefine intrafamilial Child Torture for their supervisors and colleagues.\nIdeniotfy “red flags” that are concerning for ICT and report them to the authorities as part of mandated reporting.\nDescribe how ICT is different from typical physical abuse cases.\n\nAbout the Trainer\nPamela J. Miller\, JD\, MSW\, LISW-S\, is a clinical social worker and attorney with expertise in trauma and child abuse law. Since 2019\, she has led the Child Maltreatment Policy Resource Center’s Intrafamilial Child Torture (ICT) initiative\, co-authoring policy papers\, training professionals\, and providing legal counsel in state supreme court cases on child torture. Ms. Miller is a Certified Trauma Practitioner with advanced training in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics\, Body-Based Trauma Treatment\, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy\, along with training in PCIT/CARE\, Child-Centered Play Therapy\, and Attachment-Based Play Therapy. She has served as a psychotherapist\, an attorney-GAL for maltreated children\, and held executive roles in public mental health. \nMs. Miller earned her JD/MSW from the University of Cincinnati and her law degree from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law\, where she was a Moritz Merit Scholar and recipient of the Bergstrom Fellowship from the University of Michigan College of Law. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nFor professionals working with children disclosing abuse\, it is important to understand dynamics of domestic violence to be able to be a part of an effective investigation. Understanding that domestic abuse co-occurs at a substantially high rate alongside child abuse enhances child abuse professionals’ ability to do their jobs in a holistic way. In this session\, participants will learn the barriers that victims of domestic violence face in leaving an abusive relationship\, specifically when children are involved\, and how system intervention may inadvertently cause additional barriers. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nIntimate Partner Violence between parents is often brushed aside when determining what is best for the children\, with family members\, law enforcement\, custody conciliators\, and even judges failing to weigh the non-abusive parent’s concerns if the children were not targets of the abuse itself. \nThe research into long- and short-term negative outcomes in children’s mental\, physical\, and social health is extensive and clear: Witnessing IPV in the home puts all children at greatly increased risk of a number of known harms\, some of which may surprise even the most seasoned advocates and first responders. \nLearning Objectives\n\nArticulate specific risks for children exposed to IPV from infancy to school age to teens and young adults.\nHelp survivors take appropriate protective measures for their children who have been exposed to IPV in the home.\nBetter advocate for children whose families are involved in the justice system due to IPV.\n\nRegister Through Justice Clearinghouse\n
