DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC) Forensic Interviewing of Children training is an internationally recognized\, research-informed and practice-informed intensive training. Participants will learn necessary skills to conduct a competent investigative interview of a child using the NCAC Child Forensic Interview (CFI) Structure. Participants will also be introduced to the evidence-based literature that supports the NCAC CFI Structure. This 4-day\, interactive training is facilitated by practicing forensic interviewers who are well-versed in the current literature. SUMMARY:CornerHouse | Multi-Session Forensic Interviews: When and Why They Should Be Considered
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren and youth have individual needs based on their age and development. The CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol is a person-centered\, semi-structured\, and forensically sound process to gather information from individuals who are identified as victims and/or witnesses of an alleged crime. There are times when it is necessary to adjust a traditional model of a one session forensic interview for the unique needs of the individual\, including interviewing the individual over multiple sessions. This is identified as a Planned Multiple Session Interview (or multisession). Understanding when a multisession interview is necessary and how to conduct a multisession interview may be beneficial to maximize the individual’s ability or opportunity to share their experience. \nThis training will review the literature regarding multiple-session interviews\, discuss decision-making for selecting appropriate cases for multiple sessions\, and provide guidance on conducting a single forensic interview over multiple sessions. \nObjectives\n\nLearners will understand the benefits of multiple-session forensic interviews in meeting the unique needs of individuals.\nLearners will identify when a multiple-session interview may be necessary.\nLearners will learn to adjust the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol into a Planned Multiple-session interview.\nLearners will explore considerations for the Multidisciplinary Team regarding incorporating multiple session interviews in current practice.\n\nRegister Through CornerHouse\nThis training being offered FREE to MDT members within the state of Minnesota. Ethical decision-making is particularly challenging with adolescents because legal rights\, ethical concerns\, and guidelines change as clients age. An ethical humility framework enables you to support your client’s growth and development while upholding your professional responsibilities. \nExploring the micro and macro levels of ethical humility in your work with adolescents ensures that you support your clients’ rights to self-advocacy in your professional role. The complex interplay of individual and parental rights with varied laws and guidelines requires careful consideration. As a child progresses from adolescence to adulthood\, their decision-making capacity evolves. Developing an ethical decision-making process ensures that adolescent clients receive appropriate care from professionals. Adopting an ethical humility perspective strengthens the professional’s ability to meet the client where they are. \nEthical decision-making is crucial for all professionals working with adolescents. Laura has served as a volunteer on the Crisis Text Line since April 2020. \n​Her career experiences include being a child and adolescent therapist for over 20 years\, and 15 years working with children and adults who have developmental disabilities\, thus providing thousands of opportunities to work with clients and their families in moments of crisis. Laura has specialized training in Trauma Informed Care and presented at the 2021 Ohio Children’s Alliance conference: Eighth Annual Trauma Informed Care Summit. SUMMARY:CornerHouse Basic Forensic Interview Training
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training teaches the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol™ a credible\, reliable\, developmentally flexible and non-traumatic forensic interview protocol appropriate for children\, adolescents and vulnerable adults involved in a sexual abuse investigation. Training methods include lecture and discussion\, review of CornerHouse video-recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. These courses are designed for teams of forensic interviewers\, child protection workers\, tribal social service investigators\, law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorneys. Participants are encouraged to attend as a multidisciplinary team. Courses are outcome-based and include an exam upon completion. \nThis training is taking place in-person in Roseville\, MN. Each day training will take place from 8:00am-4:30pm Central Time. Friday will be a half day from 8:00am-1:00pm. A continental breakfast is offered each day as well as lunch on Monday and Thursday. \nRegister through CornerHouse\nPlease note that in consideration for the safety of CornerHouse staff\, other participants\, and our community\, we highly encourage all in-person attendees be vaccinated and test for Covid-19 before attending training. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Protocol brings the field into the classroom\, enhancing the education of front-line child abuse response professionals. This training is designed for investigative teams of law enforcement officers\, social workers\, prosecutors\, child protection attorneys\, and forensic interviewers. \nStudents receive training on the ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Protocol\, which includes child development\, memory and suggestibility\, testifying in court\, legal issues\, and preparing children for court. This training incorporates lecture and discussion\, review of electronically recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. \nThe ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Protocol is an NCA-approved forensic interview protocol for accreditation. \nThis training will be held in-person at the First Witness Capstan Training Center in Duluth\, MN. \nScholarships are available for county\, tribes\, and other local professionals responsible for child maltreatment investigations and prosecutions in the State of Minnesota. When selecting from our payment options\, choose “I am applying for a Minnesota Dept. of Health and Human Services (DHS) Scholarship.” Recipients are responsible for any other costs of attending this training\, including travel\, lodging\, and meals. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training teaches the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol™ a credible\, reliable\, developmentally flexible and non-traumatic forensic interview protocol appropriate for children\, adolescents and vulnerable adults involved in a sexual abuse investigation. Training methods include lecture and discussion\, review of CornerHouse video-recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. These courses are designed for teams of forensic interviewers\, child protection workers\, tribal social service investigators\, law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorneys. Participants are encouraged to attend as a multidisciplinary team. Courses are outcome-based and include an exam upon completion. \nThis training is taking place in-person in Roseville\, MN. Each day training will take place from 8:00am-4:30pm Central Time. Friday will be a half day from 8:00am-1:00pm. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChild forensic interviews often provide key evidence to guide further investigation and to support decisions made about whether to pursue criminal prosecutions in cases involving maltreatment\, exploitation\, or exposure to violence\, as well as civil child protection interventions. Consequently\, many professionals have an interest in how these interviews are conducted and can benefit from an understanding of best practices in child forensic interviewing. SUMMARY:CornerHouse Forensic Interviewing for Vulnerable Adults – What We Have Learned in the Past 35 Years
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nWinter Webinar Week is a FREE training opportunity with some of CornerHouse’s amazing trainers. This is a week full of virtual webinars during lunch\, where you can learn about a wide range of topics and ask any questions you have. \nMuch attention has been given to the development of effective\, trauma-informed forensic interviewing protocols that respond to allegations of abuse\, neglect\, and exploitation of children and adolescents. The reality is elderly and vulnerable adult populations also have unique needs and are similarly deserving of practices that are reflective of these needs. The research (science) and practice-informed (art) investigator knows by using forensic interviews in adult protection investigations\, there will be many benefits\, to all parties. As CornerHouse celebrates 35 years of service\, we look back to the history of forensic interviewing and learn about the why. In this training\, participants will gain an introduction into the art of conducting a CornerHouse Forensic Interview™\, which has now been adapted to meet the unique needs of all populations. As a forensic interview must be based on both art and science\, participants will be provided with the cutting edge of research into the why and how of conducting a forensic interview.
