SUMMARY:Multidisciplinary Team Response to Child Sex Trafficking
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nNational Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJTC) of Fox Valley Technical College is hosting a training opportunity for professionals in Community Corrections Officer\, Court System Personnel\, Emergency Management\, Law Enforcement and Support\, Prosecutors\, Social Workers\, Tribes/Tribal Partners\, and Victim Service Providers. \nThis 3.5 day team-based training will guide existing Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT) to improve their response to Child Sex Trafficking (CST)\, as well as assist those who seek to establish a formal MDT in their communities to more effectively respond to CST cases. Subject matter experts will work with teams to identify gaps and develop short and long-term response plans. \nTo attend this training\, you must be part of a multidisciplinary team and your team members must attend with you\, from a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 10. Each team member should register individually. To make your team easily identifiable\, all team members should use the same name for their team leader during the registration process. If you need assistance in building your team\, please contact our office at the number/email below. \nAttendance at a course such as System Response to High Risk Victims-Child Sex Trafficking (HRV CST) or Investigative Strategies in Child Abduction Cases (ISCAC)\, or have a working knowledge of child sex trafficking is highly recommended. \nUpon completion of this training\, you will be able:\n\nDifferentiate between responses to traditional child abuse and child sex trafficking cases\nUtilize the components of an effective MDT for child sex trafficking\nRecognize and locate youth at risk victimization\nCreate a plan that encompasses strengths\, challenges and a direction for your MDT response to child sex trafficking\n\nRegister through NCJTC\nRegister by December 1\, 2023 \nDo not make any non-refundable travel arrangements until confirmation of enrollment has been received via email. \nTuition\, student materials\, and instructional costs are provided by the Missing and Exploited Children Training and Technical Assistance Program. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildFirst® is an intensive virtual five-day course in which students learn the necessary skills to conduct a competent\, investigative interview of a child abuse victim using the ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Protocol. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nJoin Zero Abuse Project this December for their End of Year Prosecutor Webinar Series\, brought to you by the Trauma-informed Prosecutor Project (TiPP)\, funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). Their December Prosecutor Institute promises to be an insightful journey\, spanning three weeks and encompassing six crucial topics. To accommodate participants across different time zones\, each topic will be presented twice on its designated day. Be sure to register separately for each training session you wish to attend. \nMany defense attorneys attempt to deflect juror attention away from a child’s allegations of abuse by attacking the manner in which the child was interviewed. The implicit or explicit claim is that the interviewer purposefully or unwittingly planted the allegation of abuse in the child’s mind. Fearful of the anticipated attack on the investigative interview\, some prosecutors decline to file charges in cases involving only eyewitness testimony of a young child. In this workshop students will learn how to successfully defend the investigative interview. \nLearning Objectives\n\nGain insight into prevalent defense criticisms regarding the forensic interview.\nRecognize ten specific strategies for effectively cross-examining the defense expert witness.\nUnderstand how conducting a thorough direct examination of the forensic interview paves the way for a successful cross-examination of the defense expert witness.\n\nAbout Presenter\nVictor Vieth – Chief Program Officer \nVictor has trained thousands of child-protection professionals from all 50 states\, two U.S. Territories\, and 17 countries on numerous topics pertaining to child abuse investigations\, prosecutions and prevention. Victor gained national recognition for his work in addressing child abuse in small communities as a prosecutor in rural Minnesota\, and has been named to the President’s Honor Roll of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nJoin us this December for the End of Year Prosecutor Webinar Series\, brought to you by the Trauma-informed Prosecutor Project (TiPP)\, funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). Our December Prosecutor Institute promises to be an insightful journey\, spanning three weeks and encompassing six crucial topics. To accommodate participants across different time zones\, each topic will be presented twice on its designated day. Be sure to register separately for each training session you wish to attend. \nMany defense attorneys attempt to deflect juror attention away from a child’s allegations of abuse by attacking the manner in which the child was interviewed. The implicit or explicit claim is that the interviewer purposefully or unwittingly planted the allegation of abuse in the child’s mind. Fearful of the anticipated attack on the investigative interview\, some prosecutors decline to file charges in cases involving only eyewitness testimony of a young child. SUMMARY:NCAC Forensic Interviewing of Children
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC) Forensic Interviewing of Children training is an internationally recognized\, research-informed and practice-informed intensive training. Participants will learn necessary skills to conduct a competent investigative interview of a child using the NCAC Child Forensic Interview (CFI) Structure. Participants will also be introduced to the evidence-based literature that supports the NCAC CFI Structure. \nThis interactive training is facilitated by practicing forensic interviewers who are well-versed in the current literature. The training includes lectures\, skill-building activities\, guided discussions\, reflections\, and an interview practicum in a supportive environment with assessment and feedback provided by experienced interviewers. A pre- and post-training knowledge check will be administered. \nTopics covered in this course include the following: \n\nNCAC Child Forensic Interview Structure\nDynamics of Abuse\nForensic Conversations\nChild Development\nMemory and Suggestibility\nPre-Interview Planning\nInclusive Forensic Interviewing\nInterview Practicum and Assessment\nTransition Strategies\nEffective Courtroom Testimony\n\nThis training is a four-day commitment. Participants are expected to complete six-hours of pre-work consisting of selected readings and interactive recorded exercises to be done at their own pace prior to the first official day of training. Trainings are conducted multiple times throughout the year either on-site in Huntsville\, AL\, or virtually. \nThis training has been updated to meet the 2023 National Children’s Alliance Standards for Accredited Children’s Advocacy Centers. \nRegister through NCAC\nRegister by November 4\, 2023\nThere is a 25% discount for registrants from Tribal CACs or developing countries. Please contact the training coordinator for additional information. \nCancellation Policy\nThe full registration fee is due by the fee deadline stated above in order to hold your spot. Andy became a StepWise instructor in 2008\, under the direct supervision of Dr. John Yuille and Dr. Hugues Hervé. Since then\, he has trained hundreds of front-line staff in StepWise interviewing. As the Training Division Manager\, he mentors new trainers\, consults with interviewers in the field\, and contributes to new workshop development. In 2001\, his policing career began\, and after completing twenty years of service\, Andy held the rank of Staff Sergeant at the Saanich Police Department\, Victoria\, BC. He is the recipient of multiple police commendations\, including the Meritorious Service Medal from the Provincial Lt. Governor. He has also held positions as a sessional instructor at Camosun College and an online instructor at the University of Manitoba. SUMMARY:NCAC SUpervision of Child Forensic Interviewers
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nAs many child advocacy centers (CAC) employ child forensic interview specialists or choose to develop a small group of investigator interviewers\, there is a growing need for a set plan for building skills and increasing the competency and resilience of their forensic interviewers.  Supervision\, a long-standing tradition in medicine and mental health\, is an established relationship between a senior practitioner and a more junior partner to provide feedback\, guidance\, support\, and ongoing education toward developing a specialized skill. \nAn experienced forensic interviewer may have much to offer a newly developing forensic interviewer but may need more education or direction to increase their knowledge about supervision or develop skills and abilities to provide supervision in a structured and intentional way. \nPrinciples of supervision will be presented and discussed\, along with core values and practices around effective supervision. A model for assessing current forensic interviewers’ skill level and developmental needs will be introduced. In addition\, suggestions for continual growth and support to promote resiliency and longevity\, and excellence in interviewing will be discussed. \nWho should attend?\nThis training is appropriate for experienced forensic interviewers who want to develop or strengthen a supervision program for forensic interviewers within their CAC\, state\, or region. Completion of nationally-recognized forensic interviewing training is required. \nRegister through NCAC\nRegister by October 31\, 2023 \nA 25% discount is available for registrants from developing countries or from Tribal CACs. Please contact the training coordinator for additional information. Please note: To pay via international wire transfer\, payment must be made in U.S. dollars at your expense. Banking and account information is provided on request. \nCancellation Policy\nThe full registration fee is due by the fee deadline stated above in order to hold your spot. Registrants that have not paid in full by the deadline will be released from the training\, and we will contact those on the waitlist. \nIf you are unable to attend the training\, you must submit your cancellation notice at least 30 days prior to the training in order to be refunded the full amount\, less a $100 administrative fee. Your agency may choose to replace your spot in the training with another member of the agency at no penalty. Late cancellations may be considered for a training credit that may be used by your agency for up to one year. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nMinnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH) presents a training opportunity with Jessica Villery\, OTS\, OTR/L\, Occupational Therapist at PrairieCare and Instructional Support Staff at University of Minnesota. This training is suited for juvenile/restorative justice professionals\, education professionals\, Health Care professionals\, and mental health professionals and will address working with children at six-years-old to adults. \nSensory Processing and Mental Health teaches participants the basics of sensory processing differences and how they impact daily functioning. These concepts will be related to various common mental health diagnoses\, life circumstances\, and impact on behavior. This presentation will promote an understanding of preventative strategies and optimize function for children with sensory processing differences and mental health challenges to create a positive and predictable environment. Participants increase their understanding of Winnie Dunn’s theory of sensory processing including eight sensory systems\, realistic interventions to promote improvement in daily functioning\, and the connection between sensory processing challenges and common mental health disorders.
