SUMMARY:NCJTC Verbal De-Escalation and Conflict Resolution
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nAvoid potential conflict both professionally and personally by learning to organize your thinking and respond calmly. Consider the approaches you can take to prevent and respond to verbal conflict. This course will explore the communication process and conflict prevention and help you understand why conflicts occur. Instruction will also cover certain circumstances in which verbal de-escalation techniques may not be appropriate\, and provide techniques to resolve such conflicts. Join us to learn how de-escalation techniques and communication skills can potentially defuse tense situations and lead to more successful outcomes. This training does not cover physical intervention techniques. \nUpon completion of this training\, you will be able to: \n\nLeverage verbal and non-verbal approaches to improve service outcomes\nConsider and apply techniques when facing those who are emotionally charged or suffering from some form of crisis\nDemonstrate active listening skills\, to best communicate and empathize with those in conflict\n\nAbout Trainer\nJohn Wallschlaeger – Sergeant\, Appleton Police Department (Retired) \nJohn Wallschlaeger started his career in law enforcement with the Hartland Police Department in 1994. John joined the Appleton Police Department in 2002 and achieved the rank of Sergeant in May 2009. In 2004\, John became Wisconsin’s first “Memphis Model” based CIT officer after attending the 40- hour course offered at the Akron Ohio Police Department. John sees CIT as the best model of training on crisis response available to law enforcement and has helped develop it\, in conjunction with NAMI Fox Valley\, not only at the Appleton Police Department but throughout Wisconsin. That effort resulted in John earning the “CIT International CIT Officer of the Year Award” in 2010. John was also awarded in 2010 the “Protect & Serve Award” from NAMI WI. John recognizes that through CIT\, community collaboration between the law enforcement and mental health communities is enhanced\, bettering the lives of persons and families living with mental illness. \nRegister through NCJTC\nThis fee includes 8 hours of training\, program materials\, and instructional costs. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren’s Home Society of South Dakota (CHSSD) is presenting a statewide prevention program for any professionals who are doing trauma-informed work and works with a multi-disciplinary team. There are four-sessions held this month\, please make note of dates and times below. \nDid you know that upwards of 90% of human trafficking survivors report a history of child sexual abuse? Recognizing the signs of sexual abuse and grooming behaviors of offenders is vital in the protection of children from human trafficking. Participants will learn how to talk with children about sexual abuse\, body safety and online safety. We then take an in-depth look on what the next steps are once a child discloses abuse. The multi-disciplinary team is a vital component of investigating cases of child abuse/maltreatment or where children were witnesses to violence. We know that it takes a team to ensure the safety of the child\, provide advocacy for the non-offending caregiver\, investigate the alleged crime\, and bring the case to court. The justice process is complex and can be time consuming. Through the decades\, since the concept of Child Advocacy Centers was introduced\, we have learned that collaboration is key. The South Dakota Network of Family Violence and Sexual Assault will provide a review of stalking\, including cyberstalking\, with discussion of tactics\, and tools used by stalkers\, the prevalence of stalking and lethality/risk to victims. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe Alliance is excited to host this training with the Minnesota Department of Human Services. This training will focus on developing an understanding of what labor trafficking of children looks like in Minnesota. This includes an overview of existing responses\, services\, and protocols for response. SUMMARY:Multidisciplinary Team Response to Child Sex Trafficking
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nNational Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJTC) of Fox Valley Technical College is hosting a training opportunity for professionals in Community Corrections Officer\, Court System Personnel\, Emergency Management\, Law Enforcement and Support\, Prosecutors\, Social Workers\, Tribes/Tribal Partners\, and Victim Service Providers. \nThis 3.5 day team-based training will guide existing Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT) to improve their response to Child Sex Trafficking (CST)\, as well as assist those who seek to establish a formal MDT in their communities to more effectively respond to CST cases. Subject matter experts will work with teams to identify gaps and develop short and long-term response plans. \nTo attend this training\, you must be part of a multidisciplinary team and your team members must attend with you\, from a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 10. Each team member should register individually. To make your team easily identifiable\, all team members should use the same name for their team leader during the registration process. If you need assistance in building your team\, please contact our office at the number/email below. \nAttendance at a course such as System Response to High Risk Victims-Child Sex Trafficking (HRV CST) or Investigative Strategies in Child Abduction Cases (ISCAC)\, or have a working knowledge of child sex trafficking is highly recommended. \nUpon completion of this training\, you will be able:\n\nDifferentiate between responses to traditional child abuse and child sex trafficking cases\nUtilize the components of an effective MDT for child sex trafficking\nRecognize and locate youth at risk victimization\nCreate a plan that encompasses strengths\, challenges and a direction for your MDT response to child sex trafficking\n\nRegister through NCJTC\nRegister by December 1\, 2023 \nDo not make any non-refundable travel arrangements until confirmation of enrollment has been received via email. \nTuition\, student materials\, and instructional costs are provided by the Missing and Exploited Children Training and Technical Assistance Program. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren’s Home Society of South Dakota (CHSSD) is presenting a statewide prevention program for any professionals who are doing trauma-informed work and works with a multi-disciplinary team. There are four-sessions held this month\, please make note of dates and times below. \nDid you know that upwards of 90% of human trafficking survivors report a history of child sexual abuse? Recognizing the signs of sexual abuse and grooming behaviors of offenders is vital in the protection of children from human trafficking. Participants will learn how to talk with children about sexual abuse\, body safety and online safety. We then take an in-depth look on what the next steps are once a child discloses abuse. The multi-disciplinary team is a vital component of investigating cases of child abuse/maltreatment or where children were witnesses to violence. We know that it takes a team to ensure the safety of the child\, provide advocacy for the non-offending caregiver\, investigate the alleged crime\, and bring the case to court. The justice process is complex and can be time consuming. Through the decades\, since the concept of Child Advocacy Centers was introduced\, we have learned that collaboration is key. The South Dakota Network of Family Violence and Sexual Assault will provide a review of stalking\, including cyberstalking\, with discussion of tactics\, and tools used by stalkers\, the prevalence of stalking and lethality/risk to victims. In the 16 years that she has worked at Proof Alliance\, Kendra has worked with many partnering agencies including clinics\, treatment centers\, county systems\, and social service agencies\, helping them change their practices to recognize and respond to FASD. Kendra is currently on the faculty of the SAFEST Choice Learning Collaborative\, a HRSA-funded program that aims to reduce prenatal alcohol exposure and improve outcomes for children with FASD. \nMarissa Lang has over 20 years working in the field of FASD. She began her career screening adjudicated youth for FASD through a federal grant project at Hennepin County Juvenile Corrections in Minnesota\, followed by 18 years at Proof Alliance. In her role as Senior Program Manager at Proof Alliance\, she is responsible for the development and implementation of programming for individuals with an FASD\, and their families. She is also involved in the public policy work at Proof Alliance to help create long-term systemic change. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nNew in 2023  – First Witness is pleased to offer Safe and Strong Child© Train the Presenter to CACs and other organizations interested in implementing a child abuse prevention education program in their communities. \nThis training will prepare presenters to share Safe and Strong Child© sessions with students\, caregivers\, and teachers and bring the curriculum to their local community; each person planning on presenting the information needs to take this Train the Presenter course. This course is not a train the trainer course\, and does not prepare you to train other presenters at your organization. \nSafe and Strong Child© (SSC©) body safety curriculum is aligned with evidence-informed best practices for child sexual abuse prevention. SSC© consists of developmentally appropriate classroom lessons that are taught interactively through stories\, role play\, and song in a non-threatening environment. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis course will provide an overview of affirmative practices for all multidisciplinary team (MDT) professionals supporting and serving LGBTQIA+ children\, youth and families when responding to child abuse and maltreatment. In addition to providing an overview of gender and sexuality terminology\, some of the topics covered will include cultural considerations when working with LGBQTIA+ children\, youth and families\, working with caregivers that are not supportive of LGBTQIA+ youth\, preparing the team\, family and child for the process\, allyship\, pronouns\, engaging community partners\, vetting resources for LGBQTIA+ families\, considerations for the forensic protocol and the use of interview aids. While considerations for the forensic interview will be discussed in this course\, the primary focus of this training is on the MDT\, as a whole. \nThis training is appropriate for law enforcement\, prosecuting attorneys\, child protection workers\, forensic interviewers\, mental health professionals\, medical providers\, advocates\, community liaisons\, and youth serving professionals that may interact with LGBTQIA+ children and youth. \nThis event will be held virtually via Zoom. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\nDr. Mark Hudson raises awareness of medical evaluations and findings associated with child maltreatment\, primarily physical abuse. Dr. Hudson will provide an overview of skin\, bone\, and head injuries that are most concerning for physical abuse\, including basic anatomy and psychiatry. Additionally\, he will discuss the importance of considering a child’s developmental abilities and review literature related to shortfalls in children. The target audiences for this training include non-medical professionals who have frequent contact with children or participate in child abuse investigations\, evaluations\, or legal proceedings related to maltreatment concerns. \n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\nMark Hudson\, MD\, received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota and completed a Pediatrics residency at the University of Minnesota. Following residency\, he completed a Child Abuse Fellowship and is Board Certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics. Dr. Hudson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Ray Helfer Society. He is the Medical Director of Midwest Children’s Resource Center\, a medically based Child Advocacy Center at Children’s Minnesota. He is the Executive Director of the Midwest Regional Child Advocacy Center. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Midwest Children’s Resource Center and Midwest Regional Children’s Advocacy Center\nThe Midwest Children’s Resource Center (MCRC) is an accredited child advocacy center by the National Children’s Alliance and a clinic with Children’s Minnesota that offers medical evaluation and case management in alleged child abuse cases\, serious neglect\, and witness to violence. \nRegistration – $10\nWe are excited to host this training for this month.
