DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nExperiences in childhood matter. Numerous research studies have shown how childhood stress and trauma can impact adult health. The Ace Study is the largest study investigating the health and social effects of negative childhood experiences. Now that we have the research\, what can we do about it? The cycle of violence\, generational poverty and abuse\, homelessness\, substance abuse\, incarceration\, perpetration and victimization of violence are all related to ACE’s. But what if this is my story? \nMany adult survivors of child abuse have not or could not receive a collaborative response to their maltreatment for many reasons. One\, statute of limitations. Two\, prior to Child Advocacy Centers being established at the time of the maltreatment. Three\, the lack of understanding and responding to potential child maltreatment at the time. Helping survivors of childhood trauma understand the impact that ACE’s may have on their health and well-being is step one. Acknowledging the barriers and times when a survivor feels stuck is step two. Creating tools and self-care strategies is the lifetime journey to hope\, health and happiness. You are NOT your ACE score. It is NOT a diagnosis. This training will not only help you to support current survivors but survivors who never received support to process their victimization. \nThis important training is being offered FREE to MDT members within the state of Minnesota. MDT members include any Child Advocacy Center (CAC) staff\, law enforcement/peace officers\, Department of Children and Families\, attorneys and advocates within a county attorney’ office\, medical providers and educators who serve/work with their local Child Advocacy Center. Please ConerHouse if you have questions regarding the MDT requirement. \nObjectives\n\nSupporting survivors to change their inner dialogue from “what is wrong with me?” to “What happened to me”.\nRecognize types of child maltreatment and adversity and how it may impact adulthood.\nIdentify risk and protective factors to understand what may be triggering and what is considered self-care and healing.\n\nRegister Through CornerHouse

DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren with neurodivergent disorders such as ASD are at an increased risk of child maltreatment. This population presents challenges for forensic interviewers as there is great variability in functioning including unique memory and cognitive processes\, linguistic style\, understanding and expression of emotions\, and forming connections with others. Many of these children can provide information about their experiences if the interviewer is able to adapt questioning approaches and interview strategies to meet the needs of this child. Preparation and flexibility are key. Commander Frattare is responsible for the investigation\, coordination and supervision of investigations involving the sexual exploitation of children and serves as the national representative for the Internet Crimes Against Children program in Ohio. From 1997 to 2009\, Commander Frattare was employed as a Special Agent with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Child Predator Unit. Commander Frattare is a Special Deputy with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and a Task Force Officer with Homeland Security Investigations Cleveland. He is an Associate Instructor for the National Criminal Justice Training Center at Fox Valley Technical College\, a Law Enforcement Trainer for The Innocent Justice Foundation\, and a Senior Chaplain with the International Fellowship of Chaplains. \nPauline Renick has been in Law Enforcement for 37 years. Currently\, she is working as a crime analyst in the area of Internet Crimes Against Children. She also served as a Task Force Officer for the Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Her previous assignments included Mountain Bike Patrol\, Patrol Division\, D.A.R.E. Officer\, High School Resource Officer\, Field Training Officer and Master Patrol Officer. She has experience working cases of child sexual assault\, child abuse and domestic violence related crimes. She also worked these types of cases during her assignment as a Special Agent for the US Army Criminal Investigation Division Command (CID). She is the only female recipient of the Medal of Valor in the history of her department. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nLGBTQ+ youth\, like all young people\, require environments that nurture their physical\, emotional\, and psychological well-being. They face unique challenges due to stigma\, discrimination\, and lack of understanding\, which can impact their developmental outcomes. LGBTQ+ youth can be at higher risk for suicidal ideation\, self-harm\, running away\, homelessness\, abuse\, and commercial sexual exploitation . These youth along with their families\, benefit from the support of compassionate\, informed professionals to provide services\, information\, and advocacy. \nThe LGBTQ+ community intersects with many other identities and communities. It is imperative that professionals maintain awareness of the intersectional needs of youth. In addition\, professionals supporting the needs of LGBTQ+ youth are having to factor in the rise of political initiatives to reduce or ban support of this population. This leads to ethical dilemmas and the risk of moral injury to the professional. Youth need consistent caring support from adults who are knowledgeable\, well-resourced\, and resilient. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis course empowers faith communities to recognize and respond to cases of sexual abuse\, physical abuse\, emotional abuse\, and neglect. Included are discussions detailing the impact of child abuse on a victim’s sense of spirituality and offering concrete suggestions for working with medical and mental health professionals to assist a child in coping with maltreatment. SUMMARY:Helping Children Thrive: Therapeutic Modalities for Young Children Exposed to Adversity
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nMinnesota Children’s Alliance is excited to present our first mental health training series with Dr.Kathaleen Stone\, the clinical child psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics\, Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota Medical School. \nTrauma exposure can have a cascading effect on numerous domains of development in early childhood\, particularly brain functioning\, attachment\, mental health\, and interpersonal skills. Early intervention can reduce the effects of adversity. To advance the care of children\, this session will provide strategies to promote the social-emotional development of young children and introduce evidence-based interventions for trauma-exposed children. \nAbout the Trainer\nDr. Katie Stone is a clinical child psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics\, Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She received her PhD in clinical child psychology from the University of Kansas. Her predoctoral internship was completed at the Medical University of South Carolina\, and her postdoctoral fellowship was at the University of Minnesota Medical School. In line with a systems-based framework\, her research and clinical work focus on the influence of interpersonal trauma and caregiver disruptions on neurodevelopment and self-regulation during early childhood. \nRegister Here\nThis training is free for all attendees. \n*Participants will be emailed a Zoom link one week prior and the day of the training. \nContinuing Education\nOne social work continuing education is provided.
