DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nLearn basic techniques and strategies to enhance the likelihood of obtaining information from possible victims of child sex trafficking. Compare and contrast typical child sexual abuse cases with child sex trafficking (CST) cases and address the different points of entry into the criminal justice and welfare system for CST victims. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nIn order to help a young person heal from toxic stress we must hold in mind the core components of Developmental Repair (stress biology\, attachment\, family culture) while honoring the family and community’s experience of culture\, race\, and interactions with systems. In 2017\, Washburn Center and Northside Achievement Zone began formally training NAZ partners in the model bringing Dr. Anne Gearity’s concepts of joining and making sense to early childhood spaces. Dana holds a master’s degree in criminal justice\, and she has worked extensively in education and harm prevention surrounding technology in the state of Wisconsin. Dana is a former Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Commander; in her tenure with the Wisconsin Department of Justice\, Dana managed the program operations for the ICAC Task Force\, including managing Wisconsin CyberTips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and collaborating with Wisconsin law enforcement regarding investigations\, outreach\, and training events. Throughout her career\, Dana has provided online safety outreach to over 30\,000 people. Alternatively\, there are also skills to be developed and generously applied when interviewing a highly narrative child. SUMMARY:CornerHouse | Multi-Session Forensic Interviews: When and Why They Should Be Considered
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren and youth have individual needs based on their age and development. The CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol is a person-centered\, semi-structured\, and forensically sound process to gather information from individuals who are identified as victims and/or witnesses of an alleged crime. There are times when it is necessary to adjust a traditional model of a one session forensic interview for the unique needs of the individual\, including interviewing the individual over multiple sessions. This is identified as a Planned Multiple Session Interview (or multisession). Understanding when a multisession interview is necessary and how to conduct a multisession interview may be beneficial to maximize the individual’s ability or opportunity to share their experience. \nThis training will review the literature regarding multiple-session interviews\, discuss decision-making for selecting appropriate cases for multiple sessions\, and provide guidance on conducting a single forensic interview over multiple sessions. \nObjectives\n\nLearners will understand the benefits of multiple-session forensic interviews in meeting the unique needs of individuals.\nLearners will identify when a multiple-session interview may be necessary.\nLearners will learn to adjust the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol into a Planned Multiple-session interview.\nLearners will explore considerations for the Multidisciplinary Team regarding incorporating multiple session interviews in current practice.\n\nRegister Through CornerHouse\nThis training being offered FREE to MDT members within the state of Minnesota. An ethical humility framework enables you to support your client’s growth and development while upholding your professional responsibilities. \nExploring the micro and macro levels of ethical humility in your work with adolescents ensures that you support your clients’ rights to self-advocacy in your professional role. The complex interplay of individual and parental rights with varied laws and guidelines requires careful consideration. As a child progresses from adolescence to adulthood\, their decision-making capacity evolves. Developing an ethical decision-making process ensures that adolescent clients receive appropriate care from professionals. Adopting an ethical humility perspective strengthens the professional’s ability to meet the client where they are. \nEthical decision-making is crucial for all professionals working with adolescents. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nDo issues and questions about sexuality show up in your work\, sometimes when you least expect it? Do you feel that you missed out on good sex education when you were in school or just need a good refresher and update? Are you trying to understand if it makes sense for grade school kids to choose their pronouns?   Or do you work with sexually abused children and youth and wonder about the impact on their developmental journey? This 2-hour course explores the topics of sexual development\, anatomy\, and physiology and places them in current social contexts\, and will help prepare you to better support your clients as they pass through developmental stages and face challenges along the way. \nThis live\, virtual course is appropriate for social workers\, counselors\, psychologists\, and other human services professionals working with children and families. The training will include didactic lecture\, group discussion\, and time for Q and A. The workshop is led by a sex-educator/social worker who has been working to promote sexual health and safety for decades! This training is designed for investigative teams of law enforcement officers\, social workers\, prosecutors\, child protection attorneys\, and forensic interviewers. \nStudents receive training on the ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Protocol\, which includes child development\, memory and suggestibility\, testifying in court\, legal issues\, and preparing children for court. This training incorporates lecture and discussion\, review of electronically recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. \nThe ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Protocol is an NCA-approved forensic interview protocol for accreditation. \nThis training will be held in-person at the First Witness Capstan Training Center in Duluth\, MN. \nScholarships are available for county\, tribes\, and other local professionals responsible for child maltreatment investigations and prosecutions in the State of Minnesota. SUMMARY:First Witness Trauma Informed Advocacy in Practice
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nBeing “trauma-informed” is a term that is heard a lot in this field\, but what does it actually look like in your advocacy practice? This session will discuss how to be more trauma-informed within your current advocacy practice and perspective. In this session we will consider how childhood and historical trauma impacts both the physical and mental health of the families we work with\, as well as the power of resiliency factors. Participants will also take this information and learn how to apply this knowledge to their advocacy practice from the first meeting through any ongoing advocacy\, including community advocacy. The session will end with the acknowledgement that healthy advocates are more effective advocates\, and will discuss self-care\, secondary trauma\, and how to prevent burnout. \nRegister Through First Witness\n
