DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe Children’s Advocacy Centers of Illinois (CACI) is committed to promoting excellence in Illinois Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) through leadership\, education and collaboration; providing training opportunities to strengthen CACs and multi-disciplinary partners\, in accordance with the best practices and National Children’s Alliance standards for accreditation\, which result in better service to Illinois children and their families. \nCACI is excited to bring you the 2023 Champions of Children Conference! This 3-day\, five separate track\, hybrid experience\, brings you nationally renowned experts in the field of child abuse\, and is purposefully planned for multidisciplinary members and their specific discipline. View the brochure here. \nBoth in-person and virtual experiences are offered. Limited sessions will be available for participants to access after the conference for 30 days. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nMinnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH) is hosting a training presented by Carol F. Siegel\, PhD\, LP\, clinical psychologist and instructor at the University of Minnesota. Reflective consultation is an enormous responsibility. In order to serve our consultees well\, it requires awareness on multiple levels\, including content\, meaning\, cultural factors and ethics.  This presentation will focus on ethics and ethical awareness issues in reflective consultation. It will include an opportunity to use a format by which to process ethical issues. The intended audience is for anyone doing reflective consultation. \nLearning Objectives\n\nParticipants will understand the significance of the role of ethics in culturally-informed reflective consultation.\nParticipants will identify three areas of concern regarding ethics in reflective consultation.\nParticipants will become familiar with a process to address ethical concerns.\n\nAbout the Presenter\n \nCarol F. Siegel\, PhD\, LP is a licensed clinical psychologist in Minneapolis who sees parents and children in her private practice. Her primary clinical focus is parenting and issues encountered by parents with complex histories. This may include depression\, stress\, adoption\, foster care\, trauma\, abuse or neglect. Dr. Siegel is a consultant to clinical and home-visiting programs around Minnesota and has been teaching in the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Master’s and Certificate Program at the University of Minnesota since 2007. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\nDr. Mark Hudson raises awareness of medical evaluations and findings associated with child maltreatment\, primarily physical abuse. Dr. Hudson will provide an overview of skin\, bone\, and head injuries that are most concerning for physical abuse\, including basic anatomy and psychiatry. Additionally\, he will discuss the importance of considering a child’s developmental abilities and review literature related to shortfalls in children. The target audiences for this training include non-medical professionals who have frequent contact with children or participate in child abuse investigations\, evaluations\, or legal proceedings related to maltreatment concerns. \n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\nMark Hudson\, MD\, received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota and completed a Pediatrics residency at the University of Minnesota. Following residency\, he completed a Child Abuse Fellowship and is Board Certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics. Dr. Hudson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Ray Helfer Society. He is the Medical Director of Midwest Children’s Resource Center\, a medically based Child Advocacy Center at Children’s Minnesota. He is the Executive Director of the Midwest Regional Child Advocacy Center. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Midwest Children’s Resource Center and Midwest Regional Children’s Advocacy Center\nThe Midwest Children’s Resource Center (MCRC) is an accredited child advocacy center by the National Children’s Alliance and a clinic with Children’s Minnesota that offers medical evaluation and case management in alleged child abuse cases\, serious neglect\, and witness to violence. \nRegistration – $10\nWe are excited to host this training for this month. These courses are designed for teams of forensic interviewers\, child protection workers\, tribal social service investigators\, law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorneys. Participants are encouraged to attend as a multidisciplinary team. We will explore our experiences\, perceptions\, beliefs\, and behaviors that may challenge constructive relationship development. We will discuss practical\, culturally Intelligent\, trauma-responsive strategies to keep our work moving forward within our society. \nLearning Objectives\n\nThe participants will learn how to modify their position to understand individuals and their adaptive response(s) to environmental circumstances and toxic stress.\nThe participants will recognize the potential risk factors and warning signs of various mental health challenges common among individuals\, including depression\, anxiety\, disruptive behavioral disorders\, and substance use disorders.\nThe participants will interpret the prevalence of various mental health disorders in the U.S. and the need to reduce negative attitudes in their communities.\nThe participants will identify methods practitioners\, providers\, mediators\, parents\, and caregivers can use to build meaningful connections with community members.\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n \nBrandon is the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health Executive Director & consultant. He specializes in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)\, Historical and Intergenerational trauma\, Social/Emotional Intelligence (EQ)\, Leadership\, and Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). Brandon holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota\, a Masters in Community Psychology from Metropolitan State University\, and a Masters in Psychotherapy (MFT) from Adler Graduate School. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis workshop will explore the effective use of the forensic interview process when responding to technology facilitated crimes against children. In addition to building awareness about the current state of the technological landscape\, this workshop will address misconceptions about the nature and prevalence of technology-facilitated child abuse. SUMMARY:Minnesota OJP: The Fundamentals on Victim Impact Statements
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe right to give a victim impact statement is one of Minnesota’s most important statutory crime victim rights. It represents one of the few times that victims have a voice in the criminal prosecution process and can speak to the impact of the crime. The process for submitting a victim impact statement prior to sentencing varies across the state\, and the path that the victim impact statement takes once submitted has implications for the victim. \nThis presentation will provide an overview of victim impact statements and how they get processed and presented\, with an emphasis on the important role of community-based and government-based advocates in educating victims and assisting them with preparing their statements.
