SUMMARY:Trauma and Sensory Processing: Definitions\, Examples and Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nMinnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH) is presenting a live webinar with Alyssa Madon\, Occupational Therapist at the M Health Fairview. This presentation is an introduction to sensory processing and its relationship with children that have experienced trauma. It will cover pertinent definitions and evidence-based connections to the outward responses (i.e. behaviors\, emotional difficulties\, etc) that are often seen in children that are having difficulty with sensory processing. The training will provide examples to increase comprehension and demonstrate appropriate strategies for immediate use in working with children. \nFour Learning Objectives:\n\nAttendees will be able to define basic sensory processing-related terminology\nAttendees will be able to identify the relationship between sensory processing and children who have experienced trauma.\nAttendees will be able to recognize the signs of sensory dysregulation in children who have experienced trauma.\nAttendees will be able to implement at least 5 sensory-based strategies to increase sensory regulation.\n\nAbout the Presenter\nAlyssa Mason is a pediatric occupational therapist. She received her undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a focus on child development and a master’s degree in occupational therapy with certificates in equity and diversity\, and disability and policy. Alyssa has experience working as an early childhood educator\, and a Children’s Mental Health Targeted Case Manager before starting work as a pediatric occupational therapist across multiple settings including schools\, inpatient hospitals and outpatient clinics. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\nStudies have shown that adverse childhood experiences and traumatic events can have a lasting\, negative impact on a person’s health and well-being. This training is designed to help you develop the unique skills needed to support individuals who have experienced adverse childhood experiences and traumatic events. \nThe training will be presented between 2 half-days (note the different ending times each day): \n\nWednesday\, March 8\, 2023: 10:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. (Central)\nThursday\, March 9\, 2023: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Central)\n\nPart of an organization?\nZero Abuse Project understands that changing the environment and implementing policies on Trauma Informed Care (TIC) can be a difficult task. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\nDr. Mark Hudson raises awareness of medical evaluations and findings associated with child maltreatment\, primarily physical abuse. Dr. Hudson will provide an overview of skin\, bone\, and head injuries that are most concerning for physical abuse\, including basic anatomy and psychiatry. Additionally\, he will discuss the importance of considering a child’s developmental abilities and review literature related to shortfalls in children. The target audiences for this training include non-medical professionals who have frequent contact with children or participate in child abuse investigations\, evaluations\, or legal proceedings related to maltreatment concerns. \n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\nMark Hudson\, MD\, received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota and completed a Pediatrics residency at the University of Minnesota. Following residency\, he completed a Child Abuse Fellowship and is Board Certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics. Dr. Hudson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Ray Helfer Society. He is the Medical Director of Midwest Children’s Resource Center\, a medically based Child Advocacy Center at Children’s Minnesota. He is the Executive Director of the Midwest Regional Child Advocacy Center. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Midwest Children’s Resource Center and Midwest Regional Children’s Advocacy Center\nThe Midwest Children’s Resource Center (MCRC) is an accredited child advocacy center by the National Children’s Alliance and a clinic with Children’s Minnesota that offers medical evaluation and case management in alleged child abuse cases\, serious neglect\, and witness to violence. \nRegistration – $10\nWe are excited to host this training for this month. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nGrooming behaviors are estimated to be present in nearly half of all child sexual abuse cases. It is important for child abuse professionals to recognize manipulative patterns and behaviors that offenders employ to groom their victims for compliance with abuse and non-disclosure\, so interventions can be made as early as possible. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training meets all essential components in the National Children’s Alliance (NCA) Standard of Victim Advocacy. \nFirst Witness Child Advocacy Center’s advocacy program bridges the gap between individual advocacy with one victim and system-based advocacy that creates change for many victims. This is in contrast to more restrictive advocacy models that are based on delivering services identified by practitioners. \nThrough hands-on practice\, participants will learn how to put advocacy principles into action\, including conducting a focus group to improve programming\, changing organizations and systems\, and creating programs and interventions that meet victims’ needs. \nParticipants will practice skills for effective crisis intervention and advocacy\, problem-solving\, and decision-making around the toughest issues in advocacy work. \nFinal training dates and location are to be determined. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training teaches the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol™ a credible\, reliable\, developmentally flexible\, and non-traumatic forensic interview protocol appropriate for children\, adolescents\, and vulnerable adults involved in a sexual abuse investigation. \nCost: $1\,275.00\nRegister online via CornerHouse \nTraining methods include lecture and discussion\, review of CornerHouse video-recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. These courses are designed for teams of forensic interviewers\, child protection workers\, tribal social service investigators\, law enforcement officers\, and prosecuting attorneys. Participants are encouraged to attend as a multidisciplinary team. Courses are outcome-based and include an exam upon completion. \nThis training is taking place via an online platform. Rita is a certified law enforcement instructor and provides training and technical assistance for child protection professionals. \nRita currently conducts forensic interviews and has interviewed more than 2\,500 children. She serves as an expert witness on child sexual abuse\, authored many peer-reviewed articles specific to forensic interviewing\, and continues to champion the cause of child advocacy and the field of forensic interviewing. Rita graduated from Ball State University with a degree in secondary education and was the founding executive director of Chaucie’s Place\, a child advocacy center in Hamilton County\, Indiana. \nRegistration – $30 \nWe are excited to bring this training to you.
