The reality is elderly and vulnerable adult populations also have unique needs and are similarly deserving of practices that are reflective of these needs. The research (science) and practice-informed (art) investigator knows by using forensic interviews in adult protection investigations\, there will be many benefits\, to all parties. As CornerHouse celebrates 35 years of service\, we look back to the history of forensic interviewing and learn about the why. DESCRIPTION:Conference Overview\nSince 1988\, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) has sponsored 17 Indian Nations: Justice for Victims of Crime Conferences (Indian Nations Conferences) that have attracted thousands of Tribal\, state\, local\, and federal personnel responsible for meeting the needs of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) victims of crime. The conference purpose ties in with two Department of Justice Strategic goals\, including the prevention and intervention of crimes against vulnerable populations and the upholding of the rights of\, and improved services to\, America’s crime victims. This conference is for any mental health clinicians who serves CAC clients. \nKeynote Speaker\nJudith A. Cohen is Professor of Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine\, and Medical Director of the Center for Traumatic Stress in Children & Adolescents at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh\, PA. With Drs. Tony Mannarino and Esther Deblinger\, Dr. Cohen developed and tested Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for traumatized children described in the books Treating Trauma and Traumatic Grief in Children and Adolescents and Trauma-Focused CBT for Children and Adolescents: Treatment Applications and the online training course TF-CBT Web (www.musc.edu/tfcbt). She has served on the Board of Directors for the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). She is on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and is Chair of the AACAP Child Maltreatment and Violence Committee and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network’s Child Sexual Abuse and Traumatic Grief Committees. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe Minnesota Alliance on Crime and the Alliance are partnering together on this training opportunity to learn about Bikers Against Child Abuse. \nBikers Against Child Abuse\, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) is a non-profit\, 501-C-3 tax exempt organization that exists to provide aid\, comfort\, safety\, and support for children that have been sexually\, physically\, and emotionally abused. They are dedicated to the principle that one of the basic rights of childhood is to be safe and protected\, and when the child’s family or environment have failed them\, they stand ready to provide it to them. \nBACA recently worked with a family in Dakota county and helped the child\, or “hero” as BACA refers to them\, through the court process. Orca\, the Vice President of the Great Rivers chapter of BACA will present on how BACA works\, and Jennifer Malm of Dakota county will discuss the impact these bikers had on the child victim. \nRegister through MAC\nThis webinar is free for all to attend. SUMMARY:Zero Abuse Project Abusive Head Trauma & Child Death: A Symposium for Prosecutors
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nAs prosecutors grapple with the repercussions of an increase in physical abuse and abusive head trauma\, it is critical to provide training to improve the overall quality of the criminal investigation and prosecution of these complicated cases. \nIn response to these trends\, Zero Abuse Project and the New York Prosecutors Training Institute will jointly host an in-person training for prosecutors dedicated solely to the topics of abusive head trauma and child death. The training will use multidisciplinary subject matter experts from the field to address topics such as medical findings and literature\, investigation techniques\, improved multidisciplinary approach\, preparation and direct examination of the state’s experts\, preparation and cross-examination of defense experts\, pre-trial litigation\, and topics around professional well-being. \nTopics will include the latest in abusive head trauma science and medical evidence\, investigating deaths involving medically complex children\, corroborating crime scenes in child death cases\, and more! \nRegister through ZAP\nThere is no registration fee for the symposium\, however attendees are required to cover their own travel and meal costs. \n\n\nContinuing Legal Education (CLE) Credits\n\n\n\n\nNYPTI will provide CLE credits ONLY to New York prosecutors. \nZero Abuse Project will apply for CLEs in additional states on a case-by-case basis. During registration\, attendees can indicate their state and license number. Any CLE requests must be made at least 45 days in advance of the conference and are subject to the discretion of Zero Abuse Project.
