SUMMARY:NCAC More Than One Interview: When\, Why\, and How
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nForensic interviewers and multi-disciplinary partners recognize the shortcomings of strict adherence to a “one and done” interview approach. Research provides some clarification of reasons why a child may need more than one interview and limited recommendations for implementation\, leaving forensic interviewers and their investigative partners with little clarity about how to apply this information to day-to-day practice. This training will review supportive literature\, introduce a decision-making process for selecting appropriate cases\, and guidance for conducting follow-up forensic interviews. Recommendations for explaining and defending the multi-session approach are included. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training teaches the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol™ a credible\, reliable\, developmentally flexible and non-traumatic forensic interview protocol appropriate for children\, adolescents and vulnerable adults involved in a sexual abuse investigation. Training methods include lecture and discussion\, review of CornerHouse video-recorded interviews\, skill-building exercises\, and an interview practicum. These courses are designed for teams of forensic interviewers\, child protection workers\, tribal social service investigators\, law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorneys. Participants are encouraged to attend as a multidisciplinary team. Courses are outcome-based and include an exam upon completion. This course is restricted to members who are actively a part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team. \nThis training is taking place in-person in Roseville\, MN. Each day training will take place from 8:00am-4:30pm Central Time. Friday will be a half day from 8:00am-12:30pm. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nNational Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJTC) of Fox Valley Technical College is hosting a training opportunity for professionals in law enforcement\, prosecution\, and related court officials with Detective Edward Merritt. \nSextortion using technology is an increasing trend seen by law enforcement. Sextortion refers to the crime where someone employs an abuse of power\, usually a threat to expose explicit images\, in order to coerce a person to do something. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nHuman trafficking affects an estimated 50 million victims globally\, with approximately 400\,000 individuals exploited in the United States through sex trafficking\, labor trafficking\, or domestic servitude. This illicit trade generates staggering profits—approximately $240 billion annually—surpassing the earnings of major Fortune 500 companies such as Apple\, Amazon\, and Disney. \nTraditionally\, law enforcement has relied heavily on victim testimony to secure convictions against traffickers. However\, this approach presents significant challenges\, as proving a human trafficking case often depends on victims who may be unable or unwilling to testify due to fear\, trauma\, or other barriers. \nFortunately\, alternative strategies exist to target traffickers effectively. Like narcotics trafficking\, human trafficking generates enormous profits that are difficult to hide. This training will provide a comprehensive overview of SBS/AHT\, including the underlying biomechanical forces\, sentinel injuries\, signs and symptoms\, and long-term consequences for infants and families. Participants will explore current research and data trends\, identify high-risk situations and caregiver triggers\, and examine the role of stress and unrealistic expectations in infant crying episodes. \nThrough case examples and discussion\, attendees will also learn about evidence-based prevention efforts\, effective caregiver education strategies\, and relevant public policies.
