DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis intermediate-level training is designed to support caseworkers\, social workers\, counselors\, psychologists\, and other helping professionals who are working alongside families impacted by a parental diagnosis of a Depressive Disorder. \nWhen parents suffer from mental illness\, the entire family is impacted. This training explores the effect on children when their parents have a Depressive Disorder mental health diagnosis. Participants will also engage in an exercise to help them have greater empathy for parents who struggle with Depressive Disorders. This training offers practical recommendations for facilitating support and change for parents who may struggle with their symptoms. DESCRIPTION: Training Overview\n\nThis course is for investigative professionals who work with children and families of abuse.\n\n\n\nAdvanced Forensic Interview Training \nThis training is designed to provide multiple opportunities for professionals to expand the scope of expertise surrounding their forensic interviewing practice. Topics have been selected based on requests from the field and will build upon the foundational knowledge and skills that learners have developed to this point. There are a limited number of online activities that need to be completed prior to the in-person CornerHouse training. These activities are intended to establish a shared foundation and allow learners to focus on the application of research- and practice-based knowledge and information during the in-person portion of the curriculum. SUMMARY:APSAC Child Forensic Interview Clinics
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nAPSAC’s comprehensive Clinic offers a unique opportunity to participate in an intensive training experience focused on the basic skills and knowledge necessary to conduct child forensic interviews. Participants will have personal interaction with leading experts in the field of child forensic interviewing. Attendees must complete pre-clinic assignments and respond to communication from the Clinic Director prior to the event. There will be homework and self-study assignments following each day of the Clinic.  In order to receive a certificate of completion participants must complete mock child forensic interviews with actors and pass a test following the conclusion of the Clinic. Members of existing multidisciplinary child abuse investigation teams including Child Advocacy Centers (CACs)\, professionals who are responsible for conducting child forensic interviews for police agencies and government-sponsored child protection agencies\, and child abuse pediatric fellows are the target audience for APSAC’s Child Forensic Interview Clinics. The APSAC Clinic is an initial training for these professionals who conduct in-depth forensic investigative interviews of children who may have experienced or witnessed maltreatment\, exploitation\, neglect or other crimes. The Clinic is not appropriate for and will not accept professionals who conduct child interviews for other purposes. \nTo meet the criteria for attendance\, you must be one of the following: \n\nEndorsed by a CAC as someone who is or will be responsible for conducting in-depth forensic interviews of children on a regular basis.\nEndorsed by a police agency as someone who is or will be responsible for conducting in-depth forensic interviews of children on a regular basis.\nEndorsed by a government-sponsored child protection agency as someone who is or will be responsible for conducting in-depth forensic interviews of children on a regular basis.\nA child abuse pediatric fellow.\n\nUpon completion of the Clinic participants will need to be able to implement the training as a member of (or endorsed by) an existing CAC and/or multidisciplinary child abuse investigation team.(Exceptions are extremely limited and must be approved in advance by the Clinic Director and will only be considered on a space-available basis.) DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\n\nMunchausen by Proxy Abuse continues to be under-recognized by those empowered to protect children. \n\n\n\n\nMunchausen by Proxy and Medical Child Abuse: Updates for Interdisciplinary Practice \nMunchausen by Proxy Abuse\, also known as Medical Child Abuse\, continues to be under-recognized by those empowered to protect children. Recent high-profile cases have brought Munchausen by Proxy Abuse and Medical Child Abuse (MBPA/MCA) under greater public awareness and scrutiny. This training provides updates for child protection\, legal\, medical\, and mental health professionals. A pediatrician\, forensic psychologist\, and attorney will share best practices that facilitate determining whether this type of abuse is occurring in the context of custody disputes\, healthcare\, education\, or therapy. Munchausen Support is a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting survivors\, educating professionals\, and providing resources to anyone who seeks help confirming whether their concerns should be taken seriously\, and steps to confirm or dispel whether abuse should be reported. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nPedophilia-themed obsessive-compulsive disorder (P-OCD) is a distressing and often misunderstood presentation of OCD characterized by intrusive\, unwanted thoughts\, images\, or urges related to fears of being sexually attracted to children. These obsessions are ego-dystonic and are typically accompanied by significant anxiety\, shame\, and avoidance\, as well as compulsive behaviors such as reassurance seeking\, mental review\, and checking. \nDue to the taboo nature of the content\, individuals with P-OCD are frequently misdiagnosed or reluctant to seek treatment\, increasing their risk for chronic impairment. Clinicians may also experience uncertainty when differentiating P-OCD from pedophilic disorder\, which can impact case conceptualization and treatment planning. \nThis webinar will provide an overview of P-OCD\, including assessment strategies\, differential diagnosis\, and evidence-based treatment approaches. To receive a Certificate of Completion\, participants must conduct mock child forensic interviews with actors and pass an examination at the conclusion of the Clinic. \nMembers of established multidisciplinary teams for child abuse investigation—including Child Advocacy Centers (CACs)—professionals responsible for conducting child forensic interviews for law enforcement agencies and government child protective services\, as well as pediatric fellows specializing in child abuse\, constitute the target audience for APSAC’s Child Forensic Interview Clinics. The APSAC Clinic serves as foundational training for professionals who conduct comprehensive investigative forensic interviews with children who may have experienced or witnessed maltreatment\, exploitation\, neglect\, or other crimes. This Clinic is not suitable for—and\, consequently\, will not accept—professionals who conduct interviews with children for purposes other than those stated above. \nTo meet the attendance criteria\, you must belong to one of the following categories: \n\nBe endorsed by a CAC that designates you as the individual responsible—currently or in the future—for regularly conducting comprehensive forensic interviews with children.\nBe endorsed by a law enforcement agency that designates you as the individual responsible—currently or in the future—for regularly conducting comprehensive forensic interviews with children.\nBe endorsed by a government child protective services agency that designates you as the individual responsible—currently or in the future—for regularly conducting comprehensive forensic interviews with children.\nBe a pediatric fellow specializing in child abuse. Professionals based outside the United States—whose countries do not currently have a Child Advocacy Center (CAC) model—are also eligible to apply.\nIndividuals interested in child forensic interview training who can demonstrate a defined path toward a position of responsibility within the forensic interviewing profession.\n\nUpon completion of the Clinic\, you must be prepared to apply the training received as a member of—or with the support of—an existing CAC and/or a multidisciplinary child abuse investigation team. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis workshop will share strategies to help you model for parents what to say and actions to take in order to obtain needed programs\, benefits\, entitlements and services for their child with a disability. We will share possible barriers and strategies to hopefully help our families overcome those barriers so they can be the best possible advocates for their child and family.  The session will allow participants to share their own advocacy victories as well as get feedback pertaining to current difficulties they might be encountering while trying to advocate on behalf of parents.  It take more than a village these days\, it takes a universe of dedicated advocates to help our vulnerable families. \nRegister Through APSAC

DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis virtual training provides multidisciplinary team members an understanding of the research and proper use to assist with investigation and prosecution when forensic interviews include the use of interviewing aids of anatomical dolls and diagrams. \nWhile the practice of using anatomical dolls and diagrams is sometimes seen as contentious in the field of forensic interviewing\, research shows the appropriate use of dolls and diagrams within the guidance of a nationally recognized protocol can increase forensically relevant information and accuracy within the forensic interview. \nThis training will summarize relevant research on dolls and diagrams\, provide an overview of their purposeful and appropriate use in the forensic interview\, and address common defense challenges to the use of dolls and diagrams. This one-day advanced training includes practicum and scenario work for participants. \nLearning Objectives\n\nReview appropriate and purposeful practice regarding the use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview.\nIncrease knowledge of the relevant and reflective research regarding the use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview. SUMMARY:NCAC Forensic Interviewing of Children Training
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC) Forensic Interviewing of Children training is an internationally recognized\, research-informed and practice-informed intensive training. Participants will learn necessary skills to conduct a competent investigative interview of a child using the NCAC Child Forensic Interview (CFI) Structure. Participants will also be introduced to the evidence-based literature that supports the NCAC CFI Structure. This 4-day\, interactive training is facilitated by practicing forensic interviewers who are well-versed in the current literature. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training meets all essential training components in the 2023 National Children’s Alliance (NCA) Standard of Victim Advocacy and has been approved by the NCA. \nFirst Witness Child Advocacy Center’s advocacy program bridges the gap between individual advocacy with one victim and system-based advocacy that creates change for many victims. This contrasts with more restrictive advocacy models that are based on delivering services identified by practitioners and systems rather than victims. \nThrough hands-on practice\, participants will learn how to put advocacy principles into action\, including: \n\nExamining advocacy principles through the lens of their organization\nChanging organizations and systems\, and\nCreating programs and interventions that meet victims’ needs.\n\nParticipants will practice skills for effective crisis intervention and advocacy\, problem-solving\, and decision-making around the toughest issues in advocacy work. \nRegister Through First Witness\n
