SUMMARY:OJP | 18th National Indian Nations Conference: Healing and Continuing to Stay Rooted
DESCRIPTION:Conference Overview\nSince 1988\, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) has sponsored 17 Indian Nations: Justice for Victims of Crime Conferences (Indian Nations Conferences) that have attracted thousands of Tribal\, state\, local\, and federal personnel responsible for meeting the needs of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) victims of crime. The conference purpose ties in with two Department of Justice Strategic goals\, including the prevention and intervention of crimes against vulnerable populations and the upholding of the rights of\, and improved services to\, America’s crime victims. It also supports DOJ’s goal to provide training and technical assistance to communities\, including Indian Country\, across the country to develop programs\, policies\, and practices aimed at ending domestic violence\, dating violence\, sexual assault\, and stalking. \nThis conference brings together Tribal victims; victim advocates; Tribal leaders; victim service providers; community volunteers; prosecutors; judicial and law enforcement personnel; family violence and sexual assault specialists; medical providers; social services and mental health personnel; probation and corrections; criminal justice and juvenile justice personnel; and federal and state agency representatives to share their successes\, challenges\, lessons learned\, best practices\, and visions for the future of crime victim services for AI/AN survivors and communities. \nRegister at OJP
