DESCRIPTION:Training Summary\n\n\nThis training will explore the link between historical\, intergenerational\, and current trauma-related issues in our communities. Participants will understand the connection between trauma\, Mental Health\, and contemporary challenges in social justice. We will explore NEAR science (Neurobiology\, Epigenetics\, ACEs\, & Resilience) and cultural intelligence as essential growth factors. We will explore our experiences\, perceptions\, beliefs\, and behaviors that may challenge constructive relationship development. We will discuss practical\, culturally Intelligent\, trauma-responsive strategies to keep our work moving forward within our society. \nLearning Objectives\n\nThe participants will learn how to modify their position to understand individuals and their adaptive response(s) to environmental circumstances and toxic stress.\nThe participants will recognize the potential risk factors and warning signs of various mental health challenges common among individuals\, including depression\, anxiety\, disruptive behavioral disorders\, and substance use disorders.\nThe participants will interpret the prevalence of various mental health disorders in the U.S. and the need to reduce negative attitudes in their communities.\nThe participants will identify methods practitioners\, providers\, mediators\, parents\, and caregivers can use to build meaningful connections with community members.\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n \nBrandon is the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health Executive Director & consultant. He specializes in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)\, Historical and Intergenerational trauma\, Social/Emotional Intelligence (EQ)\, Leadership\, and Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). Brandon holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota\, a Masters in Community Psychology from Metropolitan State University\, and a Masters in Psychotherapy (MFT) from Adler Graduate School. Brandon is also a 2013 Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow. He lives by the motto of “Live life with Purpose on Purpose.” \n\n\nAbout the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health\nThe Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH)\, provides education and resources to professionals\, families and youth throughout Minnesota and beyond. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nGrooming behaviors are estimated to be present in nearly half of all child sexual abuse cases. It is important for child abuse professionals to recognize manipulative patterns and behaviors that offenders employ to groom their victims for compliance with abuse and non-disclosure\, so interventions can be made as early as possible. SUMMARY:Advocacy and Mental Health Therapy: A Cross-Training for Advocates and Therapists
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe Minnesota Alliance on Crime and the Minnesota Center for Psychology (MCP) present a cross-training for both advocates and therapists. Victims and Others Impacted by Crime-Services (VOIC-S)\, is a new program of the Minnesota Center for Psychology that offers mental health therapy services to victims impacted by crime. VOIC-S consists of mental health professionals who are specially trained to work with victims of crime and trauma focused therapies. The program was designed with input from victim advocates who will work in partnership with the therapists to ensure that barriers to care are reduced. \nThis training is for advocates who would like to learn about the process of making a referral to MCP and how best to prepare a survivor for the therapeutic process. The training is also for therapists who will learn about the criminal\, legal\, and emotional processes the survivor must go through after the crime. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nJoin the Minnesota Department of Public Safety\, Office of Justice Programs for a virtual workshop on Wednesday\, September 28\, 2022\, on Minnesota’s statutory crime victim rights. Suzanne Elwell from the Crime Victim Justice Unit will outline the primary categories of victim rights\, identify the responsibilities of criminal justice professionals in upholding those rights\, and highlight the role of both community-based and prosecutor-based advocates in ensuring crime victim rights are upheld and the importance of good practices to prevent victim rights violations. \nThere will be time for questions at the end of the webinar\, and it will be recorded. \nRegistration and Cost\nThere is no cost to attend this webinar\, and you can register online via Minnesota OJP \nSpeaker\nSuzanne Elwell\nDirector\, Crime Victim Justice Unit @Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs\nSuzanne Elwell is the director of the Crime Victim Justice Unit in the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs\, a victim rights compliance office that investigates complaints of crime victim rights violations and victim mistreatment. She trains on crime victim related issues\, coordinates and participates on statewide multi-disciplinary efforts and teams\, and assists with legislative initiatives related to crime victims. Suzanne has been working in the area of crime victimization for over 25 years\, with experience spanning prosecution\, domestic violence advocacy and legal assistance\, and court monitoring and research. Suzanne has lived in four different states\, doesn’t favor asparagus and has started to learn how to play the tin whistle.
