The complex interplay of individual and parental rights with varied laws and guidelines requires careful consideration. Developing an ethical decision-making process ensures that adolescent clients receive appropriate care from professionals. SUMMARY:WRCAC Mental Health Peer Consultation Forums
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe Western Regional Children’s Advocacy Center (WRCAC) and the National Children’s Alliance (NCA) host quarterly Zoom-based peer consultation forums to provide CAC clinicians across the country with the opportunity to connect with one another\, share resources\, and seek guidance on issues of importance. Clinical experts from the National Children’s Alliance and Western Regional Children’s Advocacy Centers are available to answer practice-related questions during the forums. \nEach forum starts in a large-group format\, and then participants are placed in Zoom breakout rooms of five to six to allow for small group discussions and resource sharing. Participants are encouraged to bring case examples to share in small groups and solicit feedback from peers. SUMMARY:IHS | Human Sexuality 101: The Fundamentals for Working with Children & Families
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nDo issues and questions about sexuality show up in your work\, sometimes when you least expect it? Do you feel that you missed out on good sex education when you were in school or just need a good refresher and update? Are you trying to understand if it makes sense for grade school kids to choose their pronouns?   Or do you work with sexually abused children and youth and wonder about the impact on their developmental journey? This 2-hour course explores the topics of sexual development\, anatomy\, and physiology and places them in current social contexts\, and will help prepare you to better support your clients as they pass through developmental stages and face challenges along the way. \nThis live\, virtual course is appropriate for social workers\, counselors\, psychologists\, and other human services professionals working with children and families. The training will include didactic lecture\, group discussion\, and time for Q and A. The workshop is led by a sex-educator/social worker who has been working to promote sexual health and safety for decades! Dr. Rosenzweig will combine important factual material with exercises to help improve your comfort level. SUMMARY:Changing the Narrative on Suicide and Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nTalking about mental health and suicide can be an uncomfortable and uncertain topic that brings up different feelings\, beliefs\, and attitudes for everyone. Changing the Narrative is an interactive conversation that empowers participants to change perceptions of mental health towards hope and resilience. The goal is to know that individuals are not alone\, help is available\, and healing is possible. \nThroughout the session\, participants will engage in dialog about being intentional in the words we are using. Certain ways of talking about mental health and suicide can alienate members of any community\, sensationalize the issue\, contribute to a decrease in help-seeking behavior\, or even present suicide as a glamorous\, preferred way of dealing with problems. Having healthy conversations about mental health and suicide avoids harmful messages that might increase suicide risk in individuals or undermine suicide prevention goals. By doing this safely\, it reduces stigma\, mitigates risks\, promotes help-seeking\, and respects all individuals. \nAbout the Trainer\n \nTanya Carter is the Suicide Prevention Unit Supervisor for the Minnesota Department of Health. Ms. Carter has 20 plus years of experience in community education programs\, program development\, and crisis intervention. She is passionate about suicide prevention and reducing the stigma related to mental illness. Prior to joining the Minnesota Department of Health\, Ms. Carter worked in tribal and county government\, coordinating and leading mental health\, mobile crisis\, and suicide prevention efforts in rural Minnesota. Ms. Carter is a safeTALK\, ASIST\, Postvention and CALM trainer. In her free time Ms. Carter enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two children\, in the winter time you will find her on the ski slopes with her kids\, and in the summer months enjoying time at the lake\, the in-between seasons are spent biking the beautiful Minnesota bike trails. \nRegister Here\nThis training is free for all attendees. \n*Participants will be emailed a Zoom link one week prior and the day of the training. \nContinuing Education\nOne social work continuing education is provided.

DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThe January 2025 Fundamentals in Victim Services Training is a virtual training for victim advocates to develop core knowledge and skills to provide victim-centered services. Topics covered in this training: \n\nThe Neurobiology of Trauma\nAdvocating within Systems\nExperienced Advocate Panel\nOccupational Identity Management and Preventing Burnout\nCrime Victims’ Rights\nFinancial Assistance for Crime Victims\nBias\, Privilege\, and Oppression\n\nFurthermore\, training participants will have opportunities to connect with one another and with experienced professionals with a range of knowledge and skills. \nExpectations for the Virtual Format \nFundamentals in Victim Services will feature interactive modules to appeal to different styles of learning\, with a combination of lecture\, small group work in breakout sessions\, and opportunities for individual reflection. The number of attendees will be limited to 30 to maximize the quality of interaction. \nModules will take place live via Zoom. Attendees will be expected to actively participate\, using the chat to engage with presenters and other participants\, and turning on cameras and unmuting during large group discussions and breakout sessions. \nMAC will award a certificate of completion to attendees who complete all the modules. Participants are expected to complete all sessions live. If you cannot attend a live session\, you must email us at training@mnallianceoncrime.org in advance to request an excused absence.
