DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nA First-of-Its-Kind\, Multi-Module Training Series – For professionals who may talk with children about abuse — outside official CAC forensic interview roles. Whether in mental health\, healthcare\, education\, child welfare\, law enforcement\, or frontline work\, gain the skills to respond safely without causing harm. \nProfessionals in many settings have contact with children who may have witnessed or been a victim of violence. Children sometimes make statements that are as alarming as they are unclear\, resulting in a professional feeling anxious about child safety and confusion about how to manage a mandated report. In some situations\, professionals need clarity regarding a child’s statement and in other situations professionals need to get some information from a child before or after an investigation and child forensic interview. \nThis training will teach child serving professionals across disciplines how to talk with the child in a non-invasive manner that allows the child to provide basic information about the concerns and feel supported in the process. Specific emphasis will be on how to enhance rapport building throughout an interview\, address the importance of including narrative event practice prior to talking about the issue of concern\, and will teach specific interview techniques focusing on the use of open-ended questions from narrative event practice through basic questioning about the concerns. \nPresenters will cover memory and cognitive development research and the values of these skills. Presenters will also provide an overview of the components of child maltreatment investigations and child forensic interviewing. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren exhibiting problematic sexual behaviors may be referred for a forensic interview. CAC forensic interviewers whose mission is to interview children about potential maltreatment they have experienced and not as offenders find themselves balancing their mandate with the goals of investigators and concerned parents. SUMMARY:APSAC Child Forensic Interview Clinics
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nAPSAC’s comprehensive Clinic offers a unique opportunity to participate in an intensive training experience focused on the basic skills and knowledge necessary to conduct child forensic interviews. Participants will have personal interaction with leading experts in the field of child forensic interviewing. Attendees must complete pre-clinic assignments and respond to communication from the Clinic Director prior to the event. There will be homework and self-study assignments following each day of the Clinic.  In order to receive a certificate of completion participants must complete mock child forensic interviews with actors and pass a test following the conclusion of the Clinic. Members of existing multidisciplinary child abuse investigation teams including Child Advocacy Centers (CACs)\, professionals who are responsible for conducting child forensic interviews for police agencies and government-sponsored child protection agencies\, and child abuse pediatric fellows are the target audience for APSAC’s Child Forensic Interview Clinics. The APSAC Clinic is an initial training for these professionals who conduct in-depth forensic investigative interviews of children who may have experienced or witnessed maltreatment\, exploitation\, neglect or other crimes. The Clinic is not appropriate for and will not accept professionals who conduct child interviews for other purposes. \nTo meet the criteria for attendance\, you must be one of the following: \n\nEndorsed by a CAC as someone who is or will be responsible for conducting in-depth forensic interviews of children on a regular basis.\nEndorsed by a police agency as someone who is or will be responsible for conducting in-depth forensic interviews of children on a regular basis.\nEndorsed by a government-sponsored child protection agency as someone who is or will be responsible for conducting in-depth forensic interviews of children on a regular basis.\nA child abuse pediatric fellow.\n\nUpon completion of the Clinic participants will need to be able to implement the training as a member of (or endorsed by) an existing CAC and/or multidisciplinary child abuse investigation team.(Exceptions are extremely limited and must be approved in advance by the Clinic Director and will only be considered on a space-available basis.) The APSAC Child Forensic Interview Clinic will be conducted in English and participants must be fluent in English. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\n\n\n\nMunchausen by Proxy Abuse continues to be under-recognized by those empowered to protect children. \n\n\n\n\nMunchausen by Proxy and Medical Child Abuse: Updates for Interdisciplinary Practice \nMunchausen by Proxy Abuse\, also known as Medical Child Abuse\, continues to be under-recognized by those empowered to protect children. Recent high-profile cases have brought Munchausen by Proxy Abuse and Medical Child Abuse (MBPA/MCA) under greater public awareness and scrutiny. This training provides updates for child protection\, legal\, medical\, and mental health professionals. A pediatrician\, forensic psychologist\, and attorney will share best practices that facilitate determining whether this type of abuse is occurring in the context of custody disputes\, healthcare\, education\, or therapy. Munchausen Support is a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting survivors\, educating professionals\, and providing resources to anyone who seeks help confirming whether their concerns should be taken seriously\, and steps to confirm or dispel whether abuse should be reported. We discuss our model of providing free online support groups as a trauma-informed and evidence-based modality. DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis virtual training provides multidisciplinary team members an understanding of the research and proper use to assist with investigation and prosecution when forensic interviews include the use of interviewing aids of anatomical dolls and diagrams. \nWhile the practice of using anatomical dolls and diagrams is sometimes seen as contentious in the field of forensic interviewing\, research shows the appropriate use of dolls and diagrams within the guidance of a nationally recognized protocol can increase forensically relevant information and accuracy within the forensic interview. \nThis training will summarize relevant research on dolls and diagrams\, provide an overview of their purposeful and appropriate use in the forensic interview\, and address common defense challenges to the use of dolls and diagrams. This one-day advanced training includes practicum and scenario work for participants. \nLearning Objectives\n\nReview appropriate and purposeful practice regarding the use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview.\nIncrease knowledge of the relevant and reflective research regarding the use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview.
