DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis virtual training provides multidisciplinary team members an understanding of the research and proper use to assist with investigation and prosecution when forensic interviews include the use of interviewing aids of anatomical dolls and diagrams. \nWhile the practice of using anatomical dolls and diagrams is sometimes seen as contentious in the field of forensic interviewing\, research shows the appropriate use of dolls and diagrams within the guidance of a nationally recognized protocol can increase forensically relevant information and accuracy within the forensic interview. \nThis training will summarize relevant research on dolls and diagrams\, provide an overview of their purposeful and appropriate use in the forensic interview\, and address common defense challenges to the use of dolls and diagrams. This one-day advanced training includes practicum and scenario work for participants. \nLearning Objectives\n\nReview appropriate and purposeful practice regarding the use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview.\nIncrease knowledge of the relevant and reflective research regarding the use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview. Students will gain a better understanding of the proper use through scenario practicum with dolls and diagrams.\nAddress misconceptions and defense challenges to the appropriate use of dolls and diagrams in the forensic interview.\n\nRegister through ZAP

SUMMARY:First Witness Training for Advocates Working with a CAC
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nThis training meets all essential training components in the 2023 National Children’s Alliance (NCA) Standard of Victim Advocacy and has been approved by the NCA. \nFirst Witness Child Advocacy Center’s advocacy program bridges the gap between individual advocacy with one victim and system-based advocacy that creates change for many victims. This contrasts with more restrictive advocacy models that are based on delivering services identified by practitioners and systems rather than victims. \nThrough hands-on practice\, participants will learn how to put advocacy principles into action\, including: \n\nExamining advocacy principles through the lens of their organization\nChanging organizations and systems\, and\nCreating programs and interventions that meet victims’ needs.\n\nParticipants will practice skills for effective crisis intervention and advocacy\, problem-solving\, and decision-making around the toughest issues in advocacy work. \nRegister Through First Witness\n

SUMMARY:NCAC | Forensic Interviewing with High-Risk Youth: Identifying and Responding to Trafficking Concerns
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren identified as potential trafficking/exploitation victims present many challenges in the forensic interview. Challenges range from reluctance to disclose information to the disclosure of multiple victimizations by numerous offenders occurring in various locations. This training will equip interviewers with skills to effectively plan for and conduct the high-risk or trafficking interview. \nThis training is recommended for forensic interviewers who have developed some comfort and flexibility with the continuum of questioning strategies as well as the phases of a forensic interview. \nRegister through NCAC\nRegister by Wednesday\, October 14\, 2026 \n

SUMMARY:NCAC More Than One Interview: When\, Why\, and How
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nForensic interviewers and multi-disciplinary partners recognize the shortcomings of strict adherence to a “one and done” interview approach. Research provides some clarification of reasons why a child may need more than one interview and limited recommendations for implementation\, leaving forensic interviewers and their investigative partners with little clarity about how to apply this information to day-to-day practice. This training will review supportive literature\, introduce a decision-making process for selecting appropriate cases\, and guidance for conducting follow-up forensic interviews. Recommendations for explaining and defending the multi-session approach are included. This training is recommended for forensic interviewers who have developed some comfort and flexibility with the continuum of questioning strategies and the phases of a forensic interview. \nRegister through NCAC\nRegister by Tuesday\, October 20\, 2026.

SUMMARY:First Witness | Reading the Room: The Importance of Understanding Body Language in Forensic Interviews
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nIn this webinar\, participants will learn about the importance of being able to recognize body language cues in forensic interviews and to what extent they happen subconsciously. We will discuss how body language cues may be dependent on a child’s age\, culture\, and experiences. Paticipants will learn neutral interview statements that can be made when seeing certain body language cues with different age groups. Lastly\, we disscuss subconscious interviewer body language and the possible implications this body language could have on the child being interviewed. Throughout the training\, we will discuss case examples looking at prominent body language cues. \nRegister Through First Witness

SUMMARY:NCAC Interviewing Children on the Autism Spectrum
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview\nChildren with neurodivergent disorders such as ASD are at an increased risk of child maltreatment. This population presents challenges for forensic interviewers as there is great variability in functioning including unique memory and cognitive processes\, linguistic style\, understanding and expression of emotions\, and forming connections with others. Many of these children can provide information about their experiences if the interviewer is able to adapt questioning approaches and interview strategies to meet the needs of this child. Preparation and flexibility are key. While providing a review of possible domains of impact on functioning\, this training will focus on tips for information gathering\, preparation with the investigative partners to set reasonable expectations\, and adaptations to questioning strategies and interview phases. \nThis training is recommended for forensic interviewers who have developed some comfort and flexibility with the continuum of questioning strategies and the phases of a forensic interview. \nRegister through NCAC\nRegister by Tuesday\, October 27\, 2026
