Training Overview
Pedophilia-themed obsessive-compulsive disorder (P-OCD) is a distressing and often misunderstood presentation of OCD characterized by intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges related to fears of being sexually attracted to children. These obsessions are ego-dystonic and are typically accompanied by significant anxiety, shame, and avoidance, as well as compulsive behaviors such as reassurance seeking, mental review, and checking.
Due to the taboo nature of the content, individuals with P-OCD are frequently misdiagnosed or reluctant to seek treatment, increasing their risk for chronic impairment. Clinicians may also experience uncertainty when differentiating P-OCD from pedophilic disorder, which can impact case conceptualization and treatment planning.
This webinar will provide an overview of P-OCD, including assessment strategies, differential diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment approaches. Additionally, ethical considerations, risk assessment, and culturally responsive care will also be addressed.
