Training Overview
In this intro-level training, we’ll discuss the most common vocab and identities in the LGBTQIA+ community. We’ll walk through understanding the difference between sex, gender identity, gender expression, and attraction (SOGIE). Explore health outcomes and disparities queer youth face and intersectionality. This training examines minority stress and resilience factors, the critical role of family acceptance, and ways Child Advocacy Centers and MDT Partners can create safe and inclusive spaces for queer youth.
About the Presenters
Ethan Hibbard is a Senior Family Advocate, Forensic Interviewer, and Marketing Coordinator from Voices for Children Advocacy Center in Flint, MI. Ethan started as a volunteer and, as a result of his service, was hired to build the Victim Advocacy program for the center serving Genesee and Shiawassee Counties in Michigan. Alongside Sarah, Ethan provides community training on Queer Youth Advocacy and Clinical Considerations for Transgender and Non-binary Youth.
Sarah Zyburtis the VP of Advocacy and Advancement at Voices for Children Advocacy Center. She is honored to support Ethan in providing community training on Queer Youth Advocacy, and Clinical Considerations for Transgender and Non-binary Youth. When not having honest and open conversations about supporting Queeryouth, Sarah also oversees prevention education, advocacy, the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)Program, the Family Resource Center, and events at Voices for Children. Sarah wants those receiving the training to understand the critical role they can play in saving the lives of the queer youth and teens they serve.
About Voices for Children Advocacy Center
Voices for Children Advocacy Center works to intervene in the alarming number of children who are survivors of abuse by educating, empowering, and enlightening the community, school-aged children, and parents about prevention factors. Voices for Children leads the community in responding to victims of child abuse violence and works to break the cycle of abuse via the prevention, and intervention programming, as well as community education. Voices for Children is dedicated to building healthy relationships and provides a continuum of services for persons of all ages who have been or are at risk of being, victims of child abuse or neglect. Our agency’s model is grounded in a strengths-based, empowerment philosophy and incorporates best practices and evidence-based strategies.
