APSAC is presenting a four-week training on child abuse prevention in recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Week 1: Primary Prevention – Building Resilient Communities
Presented by Catherine Taylor, PhD, LCSW, MPH – April 3rd, 1:00 – 2:00 PM ET
- Introduction to Child Abuse Prevention Month and Public Health Week
- Understanding the root causes and risk factors of child abuse
- Promoting positive parenting techniques and nurturing environments
- Community engagement strategies: fostering supportive networks and resources
- Educating stakeholders on recognizing and reporting signs of abuse
Week 2: Secondary Prevention – Early Intervention and Support Systems
Presented by Rhonda Newton, MEd – April 16th, 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET
- Identifying vulnerable populations and at-risk families
- Strengthening early intervention programs and support services
- Training professionals in trauma-informed care and intervention techniques
- Collaboration between social services, healthcare, and educational institutions
Week 3: Tertiary Prevention – Healing and Recovery
Presented by Cheryl Lanktree, PhD – April 23rd, 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET
- Addressing the long-term effects of abuse on individuals and families
- Accessing therapeutic interventions and mental health support
- Promoting resilience and post-traumatic growth in survivors
Week 4: Universal Prevention – Creating a Culture of Child Safety
Presented by Stacie LeBlanc, JD, MEd – April 30th, 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET
- Implementing simple, low-cost prevention programs in organizations, schools and communities
- Fostering a culture of reporting and supporting beyond the report
- Promoting positive social norms and attitudes towards child well-being
- Engaging stakeholders in ongoing efforts to protect children from abuse
