Training Overview

Participants will explore their sense of identity through the lens of culture. Our identity is formed by universal human, culturally bound, and personal experiences. By embarking on their own cultural journey, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how their own experiences impact the way they see the world and their ability to serve families. They will explore their personal culture and how it impacts their interactions with families. Participants will have the opportunity to appreciate how culture impacts their families and how to connect with people of different cultures to better serve their needs. Participants will explore how organizations, institutions, and society influences family engagement.

Learning Objectives

  • List the 3 domains that influence their identity
  • Apply the 3 levels of culture to their personal culture and to how it impacts their interaction with families
  • List 3 strategies to help decrease cultural barriers to understanding and communication

Who should attend: All staff of family resource centers (FRCs), Child Abuse Prevention Councils (CAPCs), community-based organizations, and other child- and family-serving systems.
