Training Overview
Learn the techniques, methods and strategies for interviews during child abuse and exploitation investigations in order to improve case outcomes. These interviews could be with non-offending spouses, caregivers, other family members or friends, as well as suspects. This skills-based training will assist students with obtaining exculpatory information to build a stronger case, while being victim-centered and trauma-informed.
- Engage witnesses, non-offending caregivers, and alleged victims in a trauma-informed manner to minimize the potential negative impact of the investigative process while gathering information.
- Maximize the amount of accurate information gathered during investigative interviews resulting in solid statement evidence.
- Minimize suggestibility through a purposeful questioning approach.
- Practice narrative-inviting question strategies.
- Discuss safety and generate approaches for multiple case scenarios that maximize positive outcomes.
